I woke up sweating.

Flashback dreams were constant. Something I had never been able to escape whether I took sleeping pills or drank, or watched a lighthearted movie it didn't matter. His face loomed in my nightmares every night of my life.

I looked at my phone and it was 12:00 pm. It was pretty common for me to wake up around this time simply because of the regimented schedule I had been on in my home. Walter was still sleeping next to me and I felt better almost instantly. He looked so peaceful while he slept, his even breath rising and falling slowly.

My phone started buzzing on the side table. I had a new email, which wasn't anything to be interested in considering I got probably over 20 emails a day for random work things  and new details for kids in my case load. I swiped the notification away and instead scrolled through social media. It was so weird to me how some of the younger girls looked. Teenagers who had grown up in the lap of luxury.

I couldn't help but feel some envy.

I tossed my phone on the bed and went into the bathroom to pee. Sitting down I put my elbows on my knees and rubbed my forehead.

That wine is hating me right now...that nap didn't really help. I thought to myself with regret.

bzz...bzz...bzzz.

I heard my phone buzzing again and went over to it after washing my hands and face.

I went into my emails and was ready to begin browsing when I saw the subject line of the first email I had received.

Silent tears started to stream down my face. My chest burned, my throat closed. I was frozen. Chills racked my body as I opened the email and started to read, my eyes racing across the lines, not willing to accept what they were reading.

What is happening. What the fuck is happening.

What I felt was pure panic. Pure fear. Pure disbelief.
