You can only imagine how much money was spent in this kind of event. Money are flowing in every item that was auctioned. I am amazed by how many will bid for an ordinary looking necklace. It makes me feel that they are bidding to get praised and oohs from people who are watching and that they are not really that interested with the item.
I can't help but shake my head in disbelief.
"Something wrong?" Leo asked. We are seated in a corner. His parents are in front but he refused to be seated with them. From what I can see, he does not like the limelight and attention that he is getting.
"Nothing, don't worry about me." I smiled at him.
He just looked at me for a second and looked at the stage again.
A pair of earrings is now on bidding. It started with a 100 thousand pesos. My jaw dropped.
"Unbelievable." I whispered.
"What? Come on tell me about it" he asked again. I want to say nothing again but I just can't keep it for myself.
I opened my mouth then shut again, then I opened it again , I see how he started to smile. "Yes?" He said chuckling.
"That was--expensive!" I exclaimed. Still unbelieving.
"Yes it is." He said looking amused. "That was my mother's earrings when she was crowned in Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines)" he explained.
I wanted to say I am sorry, because I didn't know the back story and I just judged, but then I heard someone bid for 150 thousand pesos then another one shouted 200.
"What?!!" I said shaking my head. Leo is now laughing at me.
"Come on, no offense, it could be really precious to your mom but 200 thousand pesos for a pair of earrings? That is like seven months worth of my salary. Can you believe it? 7 months of my hard earned money for a pair of earrings?" I looked at the stage and I see it is now sold at 220. Unbelievable.
Another item is now on display and I want to cover my hands when I heard the starting price. How much money are they planning to spend? I was still in shock with the items when I felt a hand clasp my left hand. I looked at the owner and I see Leo looking at me.
"I'm sorry. I am being insensitive, I didn't know." He said looking sincere, I can't help but smile and shake my head. This man is just so kind I can't believe that there are still some one like him at this age.
"No, it's okay, I mean the prices is so-not okay, but it is not your fault. I just won't be buying anything like that if it means I have to pay it with 7 months of sleepless nights and endless curses." I laughed and squeezed his hand.
"Curses? You get cursed at work?" His brows are curled in confusion.
"Ohh you don't know how BPO works. It's a common thing to us." I see him shaking his head. "Don't worry I'm now used to it." I smiled but he still look rather surprised.
"Ara, I know I already told you that we have a job opening. And I said it is entirely up to you. But now , more than ever, I want you to really give it a try. You don't have to work like that." I can see how sincere he is and I can't help but be grateful.
"I will think about it Leo, I promise." I assured him.
"Please?" He squeezed my hand again. "Our partners will take care of you." He added.
"I'm sure they will." I answered as we smile at each other before we let go of each other's hands and watch the gruesome auction again.
---- Phillip's P.O.V
I was seating at the back of Leo and the girl and I can't help but hear what they are talking about.
I can see that Leo seems to have an interest with her but she seems either unaware or uncompromising because she is not showing any acknowledgement on her part though I see their clasp hands. She seems to be genuinely fond of Leo though.
I can't help but smile when Leo said that she will be taken cared of if she accepts the job. That means she will be working directly under me.
And hell yeah, she will be taken cared of.
