Chapter One ~ Teagan Harland

Thump I hear a noise as I walk out of my bedroom door and down the stairs. I assume it's Paula my little dog, but she looks more like a rat. "Hey stupid," Henri, my brother addresses me "Get ready we're going to be late, I look at him "What ever," I mumble.

Maybe I should skip school today. All my fellow dudes are going to go to the hideout anyway. "I said we are going to be late," My brother basically shouts "I'm leaving so you can do whatever you want," Henri says as he walks out the door. "Smell you later Henri," I said sarcastically.

Little did I know I would not return for a very long time

I pack some food, powerade, and ash, hug my black and white dog Raisin goodbye, and walk out the door. I take my bike out of the shed and ride across town passing the high school.

I can't wait to see all of my friends today, especially my girlfriend Rylee.

I pull my bike over onto the cracked and broken sidewalk and walk into an abandoned apartment building. I walk up all three stories and onto the roof where I find some of my friends.

First I see the kid of the group. His name is Grayson Roddings. He is a blond, short kid around 4'11. He's 13 years old, and he's also really pale. He is younger than all of us but also just as smart or smarter than us. He wears his favorite brown and green sweatshirt most of the time.

Then I see my biggest role model, Kacey Garlanes, Kacey is 17 years old but could easily pass for an adult. She is average weight and muscular. She is kind of pale and bruises easily. She has long dark brown almost black hair. Kacey is like a sister to me.

I look around for my other friends. "They're not here," Grayson claims. "You don't say." Kacey counters sarcastically. I stare for another second. "Where are they then?" Grayson and Kacey both have blank faces. "We don't know Squirt" Kacey tells me. Grayson starts looking around. He kinda looks bored out of his mind.

"Should we be worried?" I ask. "Do you think they got caught for skipping?" I hope they are okay and I'm sure they are. "I don't think so," Grayson says in an odd tone. "I found a note."
