It took another week to return to port. Before she parted from the ship, Callum tells her that he would understand if she never returned. He paid her wages for the week she worked. She rushed back to the brothel she once called home. She entered the door, but it was eerily quiet. She made her way upstairs to Joline's room, she knocked, but there was no response. She opened the door. There was blood everywhere. Hazels heart dropped. Joline? she called out. She slowly backed out of the room, but she backed into some one, she spun around to see Hamish. He looked tired and worn out. He looked very sad. Joline? She asked, Hamish hung his head in despair, and shook his head. Hazel cried out in pain and dropping to the floor. Hamish told her that the day before Joline was entertaining a client when the client refused to leave and ended up pulling out a knife and murdering her. Hamish did not know and found her hours later. He felt so guilty. The man escaped through the window, and Hamish never got a chance to wring her murderers neck. She dragged herself back to the docks. Devastated, she has nothing left here. Her Aunt Joline was murdered the day before her return. Only if she had never left, maybe just maybe she would have been able to prevent her death. She found Callum, and she let him know she was ready to go. But he informed her that they were not going anywhere for a couple weeks.
Another man overheard their conversation. He catches her attention. "were you that ships cabin boy?" "aye sir." "We are in need of a new cabin boy." "Would you like to join the ranks of the Royal navy?" She shrugs her shoulders, Sure. It wasn't like there was anything left for her. She wanted to leave as soon as possible. Her heart ached for the loss of Joline. She has gone through so much. She finds herself more terrified of people. She did not want to be near many people. A ship had a limited amount of people on a ship, but it did not help that the last voyage she took did not go as well as she had hoped, but she learned a lot. Well then Lad, welcome aboard.
Hazel found her work easy. It was no different than most of the work minus the beatings. She had to wear a uniform half of the time, it was something that was too hot to wear. She spent a couple months aboard the vessel working under Fleet Admiral Silias Romple. Romple was handsome with dark features. It was very cool to work under him. She felt important. When they reached England, there was some changes. They moved her to a different ship. She was with Commodore Kingston. She did not see him very much. Romple still was on board, but ironically saw more of him than Kingston. She answered to the cook. His name was Angus Baulm in the last year, she started to grow in certain areas. She's almost twelve now. And she is also bleeding. She tried her best to hide everything. But it was difficult.
Hazel was working aboard the ship underneath Commodore Kingston for about a month. No one bothered her very much. She did everything she was told to do. Most of the time, the crew slept up on the deck. She was one of the few who slept below into the crews quarters. She liked it better for she thought she had more privacy. One night, Angus woke her from her sleep. Everyone on the ship for the most part was asleep. Angus sat on the edge of her bed, rambling on about how everyone has needs. Angus swore that Crispin was the only person he was close with. Hazel did not know why he thought that, they barely spoke other than good morning and good night, and now go clean that spot. Angus grabbed Hazel by the shoulders and tried to kiss her. She slapped him, "No! Stop Mr. Baulm." He looked shocked that he was slapped. His moment of shock turned quickly into anger. "A man has needs!" He yelled as he ripped her down off the bunk. She tried pushing him off, but he was too powerful her. He ripped her shirt open revealing her chest which wasn't bound. He jumped off in a state of shock. "You're... a you're a girl!" at that moment he stopped and fell to the ground. A dark figure dressed in black stood behind him. Another dark figure came up behind him. "Cover yourself." She waited while she bound her chest and put on her layers of clothes. She stood up, and she turned her around for the pirate bind her hands. She was led upstairs to the deck where the rest of the crew was lined up and all on their knees. Captain Romple announced, "No fear men! We don't fear pirates!" Pirates? She thought, how did they get on board the boat the without a single alarm being sounded. "Is that everyone?" "yes." Claimed another. "Very good Listen up!" All eyes focused on the lead man in black. "You have the privilege of being Pirated by the infamous Ghost Pirate, please hold your applause!" As the sun rose, it was soon revealed that there was a large boat coming up beside them. The men in black disappear as the Ghost Captain boards their boat. He walked exuding flamboyance, He had a short red beard, and wore and all white coat with gold trim. Even his shoes were white. She looked up at Commodore Philips, he looked back at her with his piercing green eyes. Behind him followed a familiar figure. It was a man with a slim goatee, and red curly hair. But Hazel recognized him as the female pirate. She walked really close to her, close enough for Hazel to jump out and grab the lower part of her coat and cry, "Please?" The pirate looked down at her in shock, but shock quickly turned to anger. The pirate grabbed her by the collar and dragged her towards the captains quarter. "who do you think you are! Come here Cabin Boy!" the Pirate growled. Perhaps Hazel was wrong, and it wasn't the female pirate before. As the door to the captains quarter swung open, the pirate threw her to the floor, and slammed the door behind her. She drew the curtains so that no one could see inside. The pirate spun around and dropped to the floor, taking off the hat and wig to reveal her natural reddish-brown hair. "What's wrong sweetheart?" In an instant, her anger turned to concern. the cook, he attempted to lie with me, and discovered I am a girl. The pirate stood up, she looked down at Hazel rather endearingly. you know what this favor means? Hazel did not care; her secret was important. "We don't have to do it this way." "What do you mean?" The pirate woman dropped to her knees. "Come with me." Hazel looked at the woman in her light brown eyes. "But Ill be hung for sure." The pirate woman stood up and straightened her attire. "Okay, as long as you know what the consequences are." Hazel did not know what she meant exactly but agreed regardless. "Miss?" the Pirate woman turned and looked at her, "I have another problem." "Whats wrong Hazel?" Hazel paused, the woman spoke with such care and sincerity, it threw her off. Its been a while since someone shown her some kindness. This pirate lady barely knew her, and she is willing to slay for her. "I've been bleeding, from down there. It happened last month for the first time for a couple days and started again yesterday." "How old are you?" "Twelve..." "Oh sweetheart its normal for every growing lady. But I do not have time to explain the birds and the bees." "The what?" "Never mind but trust me its normal." The woman pirate took the time to help Hazel plot out methods to be able to hide evidence and continue her façade. "Sweetheart, if you don't want to join me that is fine. But we should help cover your secret." "What do you mean?" "Well I'm going to have to rummage through the captains quarters, but if you don't want to be implicated, you are going to have to pretend you weren't cooperative." The pirate woman allowed Hazel to clean up herself and permitted her to brace for her to get knocked out. "One... Two..." Hazel never heard three. She woke up some time later, there was blood coming from her head. The Captains quarters. Her hands were bound, and the Captains quarters were extremely disheveled. She staggered out of the Captains quarters and onto the deck. She walked out in time to see the female pirate cut Angus loose, kiss him and tell him, Thanks for the info and rocking my world. Angus stared at them in disbelief as the pirates departed. Angus sat frozen, he scrambled to his feet and untied Captain Romple. Angus untied another crew member as did the captain. Then the Captain turned on Angus. He drew his sword on Angus, "Traitor!" "No!" "Captain I swear!" "That Pirate called on you specifically." "Will anyone here vouch for you?" The captain turned and looked at Hazel. "Crispin? Will you vouch for Angus?" "I don't know what happened." "This creatine, laid with a fruity pirate and revealed important information to the enemy!" Hazel looked down and looked back at the Captain. "Angus? Well he did attempt to lie with me before we were Pirated." Angus panicked, "But he's a she!" "We cant believe a single word uttered from your lips." The Captain ran his sword through Angus and pushed him overboard. The shock on his face never wavered. Hazel looked around the ship, she took notice of how the crew seemed as if there was less than normal. The Captain explained that the fruity pirate thanked Angus for his assistance right after they were relieved of the majority of their cargo and supplies. But like before, they were left with barely enough to make it back to port. The pirate captain had the men count off and killed every sailor who said 2. Captain Romple promoted Hazel to cook for the remainder of their journey. Upon arrival, Captain Romple informed the crew it would be a several months before they were ready to sail again. Hazel was not planning and sticking around. In reflection, Hazel pondered why the female pirate seemed so sincere in her intentions towards Hazel. She was willing to kill her for her. The first time, she felt so guilty, but the second time she did not. She was barely phased by the concept of being responsible for so much death. But this time, she felt more relieved than anything.
