Chapter 7: UP Med

"Fancy seeing you here too, Senator Costales." Lennox said in a low voice.

Upon seeing Zeus Costales standing up, Lennox Zevallos also stood up from his seat and walked over to our table to meet him. Briefly, they formally shook hands.

"Why are you eating alone? Or perhaps, you're waiting for a date?" Zeus Costales asked mischievously.

Lennox let out a low laugh, but lightly shook his head.

"No. Instead of dating, I'd rather catch up on sleep. I just happen to like eating alone, so..." Lennox announced.

Hmm. This guy was more difficult than what I thought. Really, in this era? Who would've thought that he'd be that much of a lone wolf?

"That's no good at all. Come, come eat with us. We are celebrating my granddaughter's achievement at her school. She has been studying a lot recently and received the highest GWA for midterms in her batch." Zeus Costales proudly said.

Suddenly, Lennox looked at me and gave me a polite smile. Hmm, at least he remembers who I am from the small interactions he's had with the original Millen Yu before, right?

"Congratulations." he said formally.

After having little protests, Lennox Zevallos simply couldn't refuse Zeus Costales' request. He eventually sat with us and formally greeted Millen Yu's parents and I.

Coincidentally, we were originally seating in a table meant for six people. Millen Yu's grandfather, Zeus Costales sat at the top part. I was sitting near him while Millen Yu's parents were sitting on the other side in front of me. Now that Lennox is here, he's sitting beside me...

Never thought that I'd say it but, good job, Millen Yu's grandpa! His social skills as a senator are truly impeccable.

"What are your plans now? It's been so long since the last time I saw you in a social gathering." Millen Yu's mother, Katrina Yu asked.

"I heard this excellent young man right here has plans to run for Mayor in his city next year..." Zeus Costales murmured before Lennox could even answer.

Lennox let out a small chuckle politely. Since I was sitting next to him, I found it easier to observe him. Yes, this is the first thing I should do first.

"Hmm. There are plans, but I'm also thinking of studying law." Lennox politely said.

"Ah, that's right. The apple doesn't fall that far from tree, eh? Are you going to study overseas?" this time, it was Millen Yu's father that spoke up, Kenneth Yu.

"No, I'm planning to study here. Maybe in UP." Lennox replied.

UP stands for University of the Philippines. Just hearing the school sends gentle feelings towards me. After all, my father used to teach there.

Due to my sentimental feelings, I was initially going to apply to that university for medical school but my mother was just so against it...

In the end, I followed her wishes for me to apply for the LeapMed program in University of Santo Tomas instead. It seems weird but it was actually the first time where she interfered with the choices I made in my life.

Others would find it cruel to have their parents dictate their university but I didn't find it a bother at all because for the first time, my stoic mother actually tried to get involve with my life...

But speaking of University of the Philippines... maybe, in this lifetime as Millen Yu, I can actually study there?

"Oh, how nice. I think UP Law has better education than Ateneo de Manila's Law school, no?" Zeus Costales suddenly said.

"Hmm. I think UP and Ateneo are on par on each other. But, I don't know, there's just something about UP that draws me in. I want to go to UP for a change." Lennox announced.

Suddenly, I felt a sudden jolt inside me. Time for me to make my move!

"I feel exactly the same way. There's something with UP that screams prestige, culture and history. That's why, I want to apply to UP Med after college." I announced without thinking.

What I said surprised Millen Yu's parents and grandfather, almost as if they could not believe what I just said. However, Lennox only had an amused expression.

Damn it! I completely forgot for a moment that Millen didn't have any thoughts on pursuing medicine. She only did a pharmacy course for the sake of formality. Her parents once said to her that she won't need to worry for the rest of her life because she's the sole heiress for the Costales and Yu wealth...
