Obnoxious Pt. II

This wasn't too terrible.

First, the annoying guy from the restaurant, whose name ended up being Bucky, had a good thing going in the beginning. He wore a bright blue button-up shirt that brought out his eyes and a pair of neatly pressed khakis. His combed-back hair still managed to fall into his face, but his gorgeous pearly-white smile was enough to distract you from it.

The way he presented the date was also different, but still nice. He had a small outdoor set-up on his back patio, which was exceptionally rare in this part of Brooklyn, with twinkling lights, lanterns, roses; the whole nine-yards. Of course, you had to explain to him that you believed roses were overrated, but you did drop a hint that you he could fix it for the next date you guys would go on. After that comment, you didn't even need the lights in the back to see because his face was just beaming. Eventually you sat down to eat a spaghetti dinner by candle light accompanied by a glass of ice cold lemonade.

To be honest, this was not how were expecting the night to go. When Bucky had arrived to pick you up after your work shift, you were looking for something a bit basic. You know, the dinner and a movie, a walk in the park, not anything that required a lot of planning and thought. However, you were glad that he hadn't chosen a normal evening because this was far better than any trip to the cinema.

When you arrived to his home, the first thing you noticed was the neighborhood. It obviously wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worse you had seen. Even so, you made the decision to not judge anything to any conclusions too quickly.

You spent a good bit of an hour talking about anything and everything: travelling, jobs, past relationships. At some point you were positive you had somehow gotten on the topic of gas prices.

"Ya know I use to be an All-Star baseball player?" He told you, eyes glimmering with nostalgia. "I was the best center fielder you'd ever seen. Everyone at Brooklyn High wanted to be an infielder or a pitcher, but not this old boy. They can say what they want, but I was the best of the best out there." You laughed at this. Of course he would think he's the best, what teenage boy wouldn't?

Soon you got on the topic of foods: favorite foods, hated foods, foods you wanted to try. This topic lead you to ask about the beverages accompanying your dinner. "I always thought of you as a wine type of guy? But lemonade? It's a nice change. It also means you're not just hear to get into my pants." He gave a seemingly tight chuckle to that.

"It's dangerous to walk under the influence in this part of the city," he explained to you. "Especially with lookin' all dolled up like you are. I would bet money you wouldn't make it three steps down the street." You had laughed, thinking it was a joke to set the mood or be an icebreaker, but once you saw the look of contempt on his face, you knew it was no laughing matter.

"It's not the nicest part of town, but it's home. I know most of the 'thugs' that run these streets, but they ain't nothin'." By then Bucky had finally met your eyes, only to see fear clouding them. "I'm sorry Doll, I didn't mean to scare ya," he explained, gently placing his hand on top of yours. "I'm just tryin' to be as honest as I can here. If things work out between us like I hope for them to, you'll be comin' around here pretty often and I just want ya to know what it can get like if you're not careful." He gave your fingers a light squeeze before standing up.

"How about I go on in and fetch us somethin' sweet?" He asked, taking your cleaned plate before going inside to bring out your desert.

As he got up from the table to grab dessert, you thought about the night overall. Although the latest part of your chit-chat was a bit intimidating, the night had been wonderful. The idea  of a  second date gave you a strange feeling in your stomach as you felt butterflies ride into your throat. Bucky  was extraordinary. His persona was one of energy and excitement, something that had originally put you off was not the reason your found yourself so bubbly as he came out from the house with two bowls of Neapolitan ice cream.

"I wasn't sure which kind you liked, so I figured I'd grab something with a bit of everything to make sure I covered all my bases." As he handed you the bowl and sat back down across from you, you took another moment to admire him. His hair was tousled from the breeze blowing through the yard, you imagined your hair looked similar if not more of a mess. A smudge of chocolate sat on the corner of his lip as he ate his frozen treat in silence, daring you to lean over and fix it for him.

After a few seconds, Bucky brought his eyes up to yours and gave you a questioning look. "What? Is there something on my face?"

You chuckled and pointed to your left cheek. "Yeah, you've got a bit of chocolate right there." A playful grin to over his features. "Oh?" He replied. "Right here?" He took his hand wiping the right side of his face. "No," you replied, "your other left." This time he wiped the upper part of his cheek, pretending to have no idea what you were talking about.

Now, if you could go back in time and figure out what the hell you were thinking in the moment after he smeared his cheek you would, but even if you had that power you were still not sure if you would be able to find out what possessed you to lean over the table, get in Bucky's face, and wipe that bit of chocolate away. You were mere inches away and could hear his breath catch in his throat, seeming to be just as shocked as you at your actions.

"I, uh, I'm sorry," you stuttered, quickly re-taking your seat as your cheeks flushed a crimson red. "I-it's okay, you were just trying to help." Bucky replied, eyes trailing over anything but you, a hand running through his hair. He seemed uncomfortable, or embarrassed, or flustered, or something. "I guess that's my cue to take a hike, huh?" you said, breaking the unbearable silence that had taken a seat between the two of you.

"No!" Bucky interjected hastily. "I'm just jealous is all." You could feel your facial features as the question "Why?" came from your lips.

"Because," he stated, getting up from his seat and coming over to kneel in front of you. "You made a move before I did." And with that, Bucky gently placed a hand on your cheek and brought you in for a tender kiss. Your heart fluttered for the second time that night as you drank him in with nearly all of your senses. You could taste the chocolate from the ice cream off his lips, smell the cologne that still lingered on his collar, feel the gel from his hair come undone by your fingers, and hear his breath quicken as he deepened the kiss. This kiss wasn't as many describe it, there was no electricity or fireworks. It was more like the warmth from that first sip of coffee on a Sunday morning, or the chills you get from an autumn breeze blowing against your neck. It was fire and ice, hot and cold. It was blissful.

You pulled away from each other after was felt like years, but was probably no more than 15 seconds. You took time to breathe through the emotions that had sparked inside the both of you with foreheads against the other's.

"That was amazing. You, you are amazing." Bucky said, a glint in his eyes that showed you not lust, but some kind of admiration. You could see his feelings showing through that playful persona and it made you feel some kind of way, one that you couldn't put a finger on.

"Ditto," was the only word you could muster. You felt stupid when Bucky laughed but felt relieved when he brought you in for another kiss, one that was brisk and light, but still gave you butterflies.

After that, Bucky brought out a blanket so you could do some stargazing, which led to hand holding, which led to a little bit of making out. But you were happy and he seemed happy, so yeah.

It was a good night.
