The Next Step - Winter Soldier

You were sitting with Bucky on the sofa when you finally decided to discuss the matter. You sat up, breathed in deeply, prepared yourself, and let the breath go.

"Buck."

"Hmm."

"What do you think about, well, uh-"

Bucky looked up from the television, volume already muted and concern covering his features. "What is it? Is everything alright?" You chuckled nervously. Dramatic as ever  you thought, then composed yourself and continued.

"Well, how would you feel about, you know, takingthenextstep?" You finished quickly, forgetting to articulate anything. You had been thinking about the matter for awhile, I mean, a year is a long time to be with someone of his status (*cough* past assassin and new avenger *cough*). You had been living together a little over four  months and you have finally decided that you were comfortable taking that next step, you just needed to find out if Buck was. You were never one to beat around the bush and decided that being straight forward with him was the best way to go.

Bucky sat up a bit straighter. "Are you saying, what I think you're saying?" You bit your lip, nodding slowly.

"I mean, only if you're comfortable with it." You replied, looking down at your fingers nervously. Very suddenly, Bucky's lips were on yours , soft and sweet and calm. You smiled into the kiss as your arms wrapped around his neck, strong and firm. He leaned back to look at you, your foreheads leaning against one another and smiled so brightly you thought you may go blind.

"Of course I'm comfortable with it. When- when were you thinking of doing it?" You could feel the blush creep up your next, painting your features a light pink in embarrassment. "Well, I thought maybe tomorrow? Since we're  both comfortable with it, it's okay to do it soon, right?" You stated, looking away to clear your throat and to lowkey avoid eye contact. In your peripherals you could see Bucky nodding and leaning back into his spot on the couch. "Alright then, it's settles." He said. You looked back over to him, clasping his hand in yours. "Tomorrow," he finished. 

"Tomorrow."

"(Y/N), you're positive that this is okay because once we do this, nothing will be the same." Buck was cupping your cheek with his right hand, his left sat clutched at his side, an obvious sign of stress. You gave a small nod, inhaling deeply. "Yep," you replied. "Let's do this." He came forward to plant a tender, chaste kiss on your lips, pulling back with a smile.

You both opened the car doors at the same time and the anticipation that had been building inside of your chest let itself go. You guys were doing this, but you had both agreed you would only be getting a cat, believing that they were a good place to start. Independent enough to take care of themselves if necessary but dependent enough to give you both a sense of responsibility when it came to feeding and loving them. You and Buck met at the front of the vehicle, a joyous vibe springing from the both of you. To some, getting a pet together may not seem like a big step, but when you live with someone like Bucky... Well, let's just say anything becomes an adventure.
