'a thousand years' - christina perri
[ i'll love you for a thousand years. ]

☆☾★☁

four years later

the soft chirps and calls of the birds that refuged outside of raven's home provided her with a calm feeling of relaxation and comfort to both, her body and her mind.

she lays back on the white sun chair that rests in her backyard, enjoying the warm feeling of the sun shining down on her tan skin.
a closed lip smile curls unto her lips, as she takes in the fresh air of spring.

spring has always been raven's favorite season, for more reasons than one.
she adored the constant blooming of the colorful flowers, the insects that suddenly come out of their hiding, the refreshing breeze that flows through the air.

raven always loved ladybugs. even being thirty years old, she was still a sucker for sweet things.

she's happy. for the first time in so long, she's truly happy. she finally found her happiness in life.
it wasn't miles. although, the two remain together and in love.

raven found her happiness in herself.
her own mind.
her own body.
his own soul.
her own decisions.
her own heart.

and it felt beautiful. she felt beautiful. truly, amazingly beautiful.

it's been three years since she's written a letter to ethan. three hopeful years.
that doesn't stop that he's all she ever thinks about.

the happy girl gazes at the clear, blue-like water glistening as the rays of the sun shines down on the warm water.

raven hadn't seen miles, her husband in quite a while, two hours maybe. although, this wasn't unusual. he has a job to take care of.
he told her he was working on paperwork in the office of the home the two share.

yet, he hadn't come out. not once. not even to check on raven.

that felt a bit strange to her, but she didn't think anything of the situation or her husband's actions.

another half hour had passed, raven remained in the backyard allowing her skin to soak up the the sun and enjoy the fresh air.

unexpectedly, miles swung open the white framed door with force causing raven to jump and her head to turn quickly in the direction of the door.

her eyes land on his, and her fragile heart breaks at the sight.
the confused girl scans his body up and down quickly.

her heart stops. she felt every bone, every muscle, every limb and every nerve go instantly numb.

her face goes pale and her eyes begin to turn glassy, blurring her vision.

miles remains standing in the middle of the doorway, tears running down his cheeks at a rapid pace and heartbreak evident on his face.

she sees two giant stacks of white envelopes held in both of miles hands.

the letters. ethan's letters.

raven's eyes fill with tears as her cheeks become hot.

every word, every kiss, every hug, every talk, every experience, every 'i love you', every memory began to flood her clouded mind.

the two stood there, not daring to move.
miles didn't want to know what comes next.

"do you still love him?" miles speaks up, his voice shaky and quiet.
raven blinks, letting a band of tears fall down her cheeks.

"i do. i always have and i always will."

ethan died loving her, and she promised the same to him.

a promise in which she will keep, forever and always.

the end
