"Alex?" I ask as I see my sister enter the room.

"Oh, thank god, Kara." She says, emerging further into the room. She visibly relaxes; shoulders droop, worry-lines erase.

"How did you get into the school, why are you here?"

"It doesn't matter," she dismisses me, "I spoke to Winn, he said you were in trouble and I-"

Alex cuts herself off when her eyes scan the room. I watch as her gaze seem to hover over my teacher for a brief moment. They both stare at each other awkwardly and I look between the two, bewildered.

"Lena?" Alex questions, frowning.

"Alex? You never told me you had a sister."

"Hang on," I speak up, completely weirded out by the situation. I fiddle with the bag strap on my shoulder, feeling my face crumple into a state of confusion, "you two know each other?"

"Yeah," Alex sighs. "We use to be close at college."

"What happened?" I question, still in a state of shock, beginning to move closer to her.

"We fell out." Miss Luthor says, taking her eyes off Alex and onto me. I shift my weight uncomfortably under her gaze, glancing at my sister.

"It's nice to see you again." Alex clears her throat, forcing a tight lipped smile.

"You too." Miss Luthor replies. Her eyes dart down to her desk as she picks up a wad of paper and slips it into a folder.

"Is Kara in trouble?" Alex breaks the settled silence, almost sounding concerned for me.

"No, no. Not at all." My teacher tells her. "I was just speaking to her about how I think this class is too easy for her."

Alex nods warily, catching my eye. "Can she come home?"

"Yes," she answers briskly, "we were just finishing up. See you tomorrow, Kara."

I wave briefly at my teacher before I follow behind Alex, trailing out of the door.

"What was that?" I ask Alex, voice wavering on distress, as soon as we exit the room.

"What was what?" She shoots back innocently, frowning at me.

"You use to be close with my teacher and you didn't tell me?"

"In my defence," we round a corner, heading towards the large doors leading to the car park. "I didn't know she was your teacher."

"What happened between you two?" I questioned curiously, sticking my arm out to quickly catch the door as it threatened to shut on me.

"What do you mean, what happened? We were friends then we had an argument and fell out."

"About what?"

"Does it matter?" Alex replies, getting slightly annoyed at my constant persisting. "I thought you hated her anyway. You always complain that she gives you extra homework."

"But now I understand why." I say, trying to defend myself and strangely my teacher too.

Alex raises an eyebrow at me as we reach her car. "Yeah? Why's that?"

"She thinks I'm finding her lessons too easy, but there are no higher classes to put me in, so she just gives me harder, and therefore extra, work." I shrug my shoulders, positioning my hand above my eyes to shield them from the progressive lowering sun. I swing my bag from my shoulder, clutching it in my grasp.

Alex nods her head in acknowledgement, clicking open the car door and sliding inside. I do the same, letting my bag lay by my feet while I reach for my seatbelt.
