"How is she?" Louis asks as Marcel walks into their bedroom. The alpha sighs when he sees both of his omegas cuddling under the sheets.
"About the same." He answers honestly and both mothers deflate at the news. "I wish I could say she's doing better, but..."
"Its only been a week." William tries to comfort them, including himself. "She needs more time."
"She needs to trust someone." Louis whispers.
"She trusts Marcy." William offers up but the older twin shakes his head.
"No." He says. "I want to see her."
"Louis," Marcel climbs onto the bed and holds him, "you know thats a terrible idea."
"Thats my little girl, Marcel, I can feel her pain."
"I can too." The alpha agrees and hold him. "She'll come out when she's ready. Right now, you need to focus on yourself."
"Ive gotten over it." Louis says again but his voice shakes.
"You havent gone—"
"I dont want to." He snaps and William growls in Marcels defense. "I dont want to walk on the ground, knowing Nialls under my feet. I—Its so disrespectful and I cant do it!"
"You have to face it, love."
"Ive faced it. Every night, I face it. I walk past our pictures," he motions to the ones sitting on his vanity, "and I fucking face it! I cant turn a damn corner without facing it, Marcel!"
"Louis..." William whimpers, feelings the exact same way as his older brother. "Louis, calm down."
"Im sorry Sophia saw what I did, but I was not letting that wench live." The omega sneers, and he clenches his fists. "I shouldve done more than strangle her! I-I shouldve..."
He thinks, and relaxes. "I shouldve let her die a long time ago."
"Oh, Lou." William whines and holds him.
"Its my fault he died, and I'll carry that all my life," he swallows, "but I wont take the blame for Sophia's ache. I did what I had to do."
He clenches his jaw. "The only one who hurt her was Lily herself."
"No one's blaming you for that." Marcel tries.
"Sophia is," Louis says, "Sophia's blaming me for what she's going through."
—————
"Let it go, Sage," Vivianna snaps, "you have no right to be upset with Sophia. None of you do."
"I have every right!" Sage growls and their alpha brothers agree. "She let her in here!"
"You fucking supported it!" The beta screams as she stands. Sage blinks at her.
"I was wrong." She says.
"Oh, you dont say?" Vivianna growls. "Its too late to say youre anti-Lily now! The bitch is dead, gone, and our sister is mourning! I tried to tell her, tell you— all of you!"
"We get it, V, youre the saint of the family!" Brandi claps. "You sniffed out a rat, congrats! You dont have to rub in our faces!"
"Im not rubbing shit in your face!" The beta screeches. "Im more or less reminding you whose side you were on! Sophia trusted her, but so did all of you! The fact that you let your own guards down and allowed a fat ass rat to skim by is your fault!"
"So Sophia has no fault in this?" Sage asks.
"No." Vivianna growls. "She fucking adored Lily, saw her like a queen almost, but you guys? Whats your excuse?"
They all stay quiet, but Vivianna continues to drive her point home. "Sophia is coming to grips with it, like the rest of us, but she had a reason to ignore the signs. Anyone who thinks they found the love of their life ignores the red flags, its our instinct to trust until we're broken and that's what Sophia did. Now, she's broken and she has to bounce back.
You guys? You had no fucking reason for ignoring me and the flags. No reason or excuse. You enabled this, and now you want to clean your hands after it falls a part? No, I wont have it."
"Anna..." Andy says. He was the only one the beta wasnt upset with. Not only did he listen to her, but he also didnt blame Sophia.
"Our sister needs us, again. Now you ignored it the first time," the beta pushes her chair in and walks out the dining area, "dont fucking make the same mistake."
—————
Sophia hears a gentle yet firm buzz come from her night stand, and grunts. She knows its her phone but cant understand why. No one has checked up on her, and she prefers it that way.
She reaches over, gripping it and bringing the device closer to her face. She blinks a few times when she sees the name.
Angel
1 Message. The beta's heart beat picks up, and she sits up. Her gut twists as she remembers telling the alpha to leave her alone, and being angry with her for not supporting her mating with Lily. Now, she regrets it.
Ah, another thing to add to her list of guilt. Nice.
She huffs before opening it.
Angel
Hey, heard what happened to you guys. Want to make sure youre okay, and that you know Im here for you.Angel
That is, if you arent still angry with me? HaSophia nibbles on the inside of her cheek, and locks the phone. She holds it close to her chest and stares at her sheets. Why is she still trying?
Sophia closed her out, ignored her, and chose Lily over her many times. Why is Angel reaching out?
Because she cares.
Sophia unlocks her phone, and stares at the tiny keyboard.
Sophia
Im not mad. Not anymoreAngel
Really?Angel
I mean, thats great!Angel
I know you probably want to be alone right nowSophia swallows at that and looks around the depressing area. Does she really want to be alone?
Angel
But I really do care about your wellbeing and I want you to feel like you can talk to me because you can. Im always open!Angel
Okay that sounded wrong, but Im a good listener yeah?Sophia covers her mouth as she giggles. Whats wrong with her? Why is she laughing when her mate's dead?
Sophia
I'll keep that in mind. ThanksAngel
Always xSophia locks her phone and places it face down on the bed. She pulls at her lower lip to stop her smile. Why was she smiling? Why was there a sudden, yet so small, glimmer of happiness in such a depressing time?
Because someone other than Marcel isnt angry with her, and it just so happens to be her only friend. Sophia still has a friend.
Soooo
What do you think about the moment between the parents?
How do you feel about what Vivianna said?
