Four days before
"Dont you think you should open the curtains?" The alpha's voice say over the phone, gentle and easing. Sophia had the phone laying on her chest, facetiming Angel but it couldve just been a regular call since everything was black on Sophia's side.
"Why?" The beta mumbles with her eyes closed. She just had another break down, which is how her and Angel ended up on facetime. The beta called her after to take her mind off of it, and it was working— somewhat. "Im going to see everyone living their lives, acting normal, and its a falsehood. Its fake."
"Soph..."
"I just dont think Im ready."
Theres silence before Sophia hears shuffling. "You know, life goes on. Its a tragic reality, and it hurts, but time doesnt wait for you to be ready and life doesnt stop because you dont feel like living."
The alpha was treading lightly, rightfully viewing Sophia as fragments of an already shattered glass. Angel wanted to help heal her, fix her if that was the right way to put it, but she couldnt rush the beta.
Like Lily or not, the omega left her footprint.
"What do I do?" The beta whispers.
"You grieve," Angel mumbles, "and you allow yourself to let go. She isnt coming back, darling, but you cant let that stop you."
"Why not?"
Another beat of silence passes before the beta is rubbing her eyes and sitting up. The phone falls into her lap and she turns to the curtains.
The beta's nose twitches as it sniffles. Sophia slowly rises from her sheets and walks across the messy floor to the dark cloth blocking all life out. She grips it in her hands, and closes her eyes.
The beta sinks her claws into the curtains before tossing them open. Instantly, the rays from the sun hit her weak frame and she feels her eyes squinting through to see.
She stares at the vibrantly green grass, swaying trees and flowers in the garden, and out at the sky where birds flew and clouds floated peacefully. She doesnt see anyone in the backyard, and she's thankful for that because she'd rather not be seen.
She backs away from the window, but something stops her. In the glass, the beta can see her reflection. Dirty hair, pale complexion, and acne ridden skin. She sees the weight she's lost over the time being home, and touches the bandages around her neck.
"Lily meant something, Sophia, but she didnt mean everything." Angel's voice calls out from the bed. "Your family, your friends—"
You is what the alpha wanted to add.
"—mean everything because we're still here and we would never hurt you."
I would never hurt you.

Two days before
"I cant face them." Sophia mumbles from her window, staring down at her friend as the moonlight shines on her. Angel was sitting in the grass, watching her.
"You have to, theyre your family."
Sophia looks away from her, pouting. "I hear them all day. Sage hates me guts, Max and James want to tear my guts out, and Brandi and Thea arent too far behind."
"What about Vivianna?"
"She's going to rub it in my face."
"As any sister who was right, would." Sophia chuckles, trying to hide it. "Andrew?"
