"You... what?"

"I-I like you, okay!? You're really cool and stuff and I think you're smart and nice and--"

She was cut off by Kris's arms wrapped around her waist.

"Hey, don't sweat it, I like you too"

"No, l-like... I really, really like you a lot!"

"I do, too".

The strange feeling in her soul finally calmed down at his response.

As if, the weight was lifted off her shoulders.

She could finally relax into his arms, putting her own around his neck.

Susie let out a content sigh, burying her snout against his shirt. He chuckled lightly and ran a hand down her back.

"You don't know how long I've waited to hear you say that to me..." Susie mumbled, gripping him tighter against her.

Kris only smiled, resting his chin atop her head.

They were so content together, neither of them heard Susie's front door open downstairs.

Susie sat up, smiling widely at Kris. Kris smiled back.

He started to slowly lean in, putting a hand behind her head. Susie's eyes twinkled with excitement as she watched their faces get closer and closer until...

"Susie!? Where are you!?"

She flinched, pulling herself back before their lips collided. "Who is that?" Kris whispered.

Susie sighed and looked away with an annoyed expression.

"My dad".

Her expression turned from irritation to fear.

"...You need to leave"

"What--"

"Kris, my dad will not be happy if he sees you. My window isn't too high up, you think you can jump?" she asked frantically, nudging him off the bed.

Kris opened her window beside the bed and peered his head out, staring down at the slightly dangerous fall from the second story floor.

"Uh... maybe?" Kris ended with hesitation.

"Alright cool see you later now get out the window!!" Susie started to get hysterical.

Her dad most not be a very nice person, Kris thought.

"Later, gator... lizard thing!" Kris teased, flicking her on the forehead and hopping out the window without a second thought.

He landed on the grass and rolled forward, flat onto his stomach with an 'oof'.

Susie made sure he landed safely before she quickly shut the window and raced downstairs to her not-so-happy father waiting for her in the living room.

She knew right away he wasn't stable, as he reeked of beer and was holding a glass bottle filled partially with a bitter smelling substance.

This was never a good thing.

"Susie, where have you been all night?!" her dad bellowed loudly.

I should be asking you the same thing, she thought.

"Somewhere else," she said with a snarky remark, "why do you care, anyway? You were gone all night too, I assume?"

Her father raised a slightly surprised eyebrow at her question, but he wasn't going to take her back-talking.

"Don't talk back to me like that, young lady!" he shouted, raising the bottle at her in a threatening manner.

Susie didn't even flinch, as she was so used to his aggressive behavior. Instead, she took a single step back to avoid any blows he might give her.

"Don't give me an attitude and I won't toss it back at you!" she snarled.

The taller monster growled lowly at her, lowering his arm. He turned 90 degrees, giving her a quick side-profile of his appearance.

He was quite masculine, the veins in his biceps bulged out from anger. His shirt was littered with random stains, most likely from alcohol.

Not wanting to waste any more time, she wrinkled her snout at him and turned on her heels to walk the other direction to the front door.

"Where do you think you're going?" he spat at her, walking to follow her.

Susie bared her large fangs at him and spoke in a low tone.

"Where you won't follow me."

Without hesitation, Susie threw the door open and left her drunken dad alone to grumble to himself as his head started to throb.
