Nothing Lasts for Forever

Philip
"Pip, please, don't go," Y/n, my beautiful fiance, begged. She grabbed my hand with her slender one and made me face her. "For me, please, Philip." I sighed, running a hand through my curly brown hair.
"Eacker shouldn't have been talking trash about my father," I retorted. "Now he faces the consequences. I have to do this, Y/n."
"Just... just don't go yet, please. You can leave early tomorrow, stay with me for tonight," Y/n buried her face in my chest. I smiled down at her and played with her h/c hair.
"Alright, love, I'll stay," we sat on the couch together, cuddling. She read a book aloud for me to hear. Y/n would be a wonderful mother if she wanted children.
"Ah, Philip, I'm tired," she yawned, standing and stretching.
"Let's go to bed, beautiful," I guided her upstairs and into the bedroom. We changed into our night clothes and slipped into bed together.
I couldn't sleep well. For a while, I lay there, pondering the outcomes of tomorrow's duel. I would aim my gun at the sky. But what if Eacker shot? What if I died? What if- no more 'what if' questions, Philip, sleep, my brain told me. Strangely, I heard it in Y/n's voice.
I thought about the letters I had wrote in case I didn't come back. A letter to Y/n and a letter to Father, Mother, and all of my sisters and brothers. And my will. I had wrote my will. Hopefully, the letters would not need to be sent out.
After staring into space a bit, I felt sleep take hold of me. My eyes closed and I slipped away from consciousness.Y/n (a few minutes after Pip is asleep)
I knew what I had to do tomorrow. I would protect Philip. Eacker did not seem like a man of honor and most likely will shoot Pip. But I could potentially stop the bullet.
I rose from the bed, careful not to wake my fiance. Making my way to his office, the place where all the paper was stocked. I sat in the chair after lighting a candle. Writing letters to my family and Philip, I wondered what the world would be like without me. But I was just a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things. My death wouldn't matter much.
Once done, I made sure the ink dried before sealing them in envelopes. Carefully writing out the names each letter was addressed to, my hand shook unsteadily. I took a deep breath and brought the letters with me into the bedroom.
Smiling softly at Philip, I moved a strand of hair out of his face. "I love you, Philip."Philip
There I stood, back to back with Eacker. As the paces were counted, we walked from each other. My gun was pointed at the sky. In the background, I saw a blur of color.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7-"
The dream was in third person, meaning I could see everything that happened. George's desperate face as he fired too early. How I stood rock still.
"No," a familiar voice screamed. The bullet came flying at dream Philip in slow mode. I watched in horror as my fiance dashed in front of me, pushing my stiff body out of the way, and taking the bullet for me.I woke in a cold sweat.
My eyes scanned Y/n, checking for injuries of any kind. Nothing. She slept peacefully, chest rising and falling gently. I smiled and dressed myself.
I stepped into my office and grabbed the letters. Finding the gun, I stared at it for a few minutes before placing it back in its case. I kissed Y/n on the forehead before leaving.
"I love you. Forever."Y/n
I felt lips on my forehead, knowing that Pip was up. I pretended to sleep still, keeping my breathing slow and calm. When I heard the front door close, I stood. Quickly, I dressed in a pair of Philip's breeches and grabbed a shirt for myself. I was going to need to move fast, and there was no time to put on a dress.
I followed Philip stealthily, making sure that I didn't look like a stalker. He and his second boarded a row boat and slowly began the journey across the water to New Jersey.
By the time I arrived at the dueling grounds, the men were already counting. My nerves were on edge and I had a bad gut feeling. What was going to happen.
"1," I studied the duelers carefully.
"2," Philip had his gun aimed at the sky.
"3, 4," George had a look of terror on his face.
"5," Philip's eyes were closed.
"6," George turned around.
"7-"
"No!"George
(Surprised you I bet!!!)
"3, 4," it's his life or mine.
"5," I had a family to go home to.
"6," my loved one.
"7-" people need me.
"No!"Y/n
I sprinted full speed at Philip, determined to reach him before the bullet. Pip turned when he heard my scream and his beautiful green eyes widened in horror. I shoved him to the ground, only to feel a searing pain in my abdomen.
The good news was: Philip wasn't dead. The bad news was: I was about to be.
"Doctor!" I could hear Philip's screams but it was no use. I knew I couldn't hang on long enough for a doctor to come.
"Philip," I gasped, reaching out for him. Tears were pouring down his cheeks as he rested my head in his lap.
"Why did you do that, love, why?" he cried, burying his head against my chest.
"Because I love you," I smiled.
"We were supposed to live with each other for the rest of our lives together. We were supposed to have children together. We were supposed to die together. We were supposed to be together forever," Philip sobbed. I petted his hair.
"Nothing lasts for forever, " I reminded him, pecking his lips. "I love you, Philip."
"No, no, you have to stay awake! You're going to get through this! You have to! I can't live without you," Philip exclaimed.
"I'll see you on the other side."
