Brooke led Mal and Evie back to her dorm, when they got there the two girls were speechless. You could not tell this was the room of a princess. The walls were decorated with paintings that the princess clearly did by hand, (weather or not they were traces was yet to be determined). There were pictures of her friends everywhere even Calros, Jay, Evie, and Mal, there was a picture that hand a person burned out and from the little pit of brown hair and pink dress they could tell it was Audrey. Her bed had a throw pillow with quotes on them from movies hey had never seen, a tabletop easel and a skeleton hand holding a bunch of paint brushes under a glass dome.
Her closet was open, and the amount of black and white was honestly astonishing. There were very few colors and everything that had color was a dress for some sort of formal occasions. Tiaras and jewelry were peeking out of boxes shoved on the shelve above the clothes. Most of the kids in Auradon followed their parents color scheme Brooke marched to the beat of her own drum it seemed. It was oddly coincidental that all her clothes matched Carlos' colors, just with less red.
There was a sewing machine and various fabrics in one corner, with an open sketchbook next to it with drawings of realistic people in it. Other drawings were strewed around her side if of the room, some were clearly the drafts of the wall drawings. A phone charging deck and a list of phone numbers were next to her easel, and she had a manila folder resting above it.
Lonnie had a rack of swords by their window and her closet was mostly pink and green with a few touches of red here and there.
"Whoa are we sure you're a princess," Mal laughed.
Brooke laughed with her, a genuine laugh, "yeah I get that a lot, I guess I'm not a typical princess, but I'm sure I was born one. Let's go to my bed," she grabbed them by the wrist, Brooke fell back on her bed, while the other two awkwardly sat down. She grabbed a small chest from her bed side table and opened it. Evie squealed, inside was a bunch of nail polish, "we'll do our nails and talk. This isn't an interrogation," Evie was all for it and after a little convincing so was Mal.
"So, the spell," Brooke said, she gave no indication of her feelings about what they did. The manipulation of her and her brothers' emotions and freedom of will should be a sore topic and they didn't expect Brooke to be okay with it despite what she had said.
"We can explain," Mal immediately said.
She shook her head, "No need you had a crush on Ben, and you didn't think it could happen alone, especially since Audrey is toxic," Brooke spat the last part. She wasn't thinking rationally like she should have and given Mal the chance to answer, instead she provided the cover, something she would learn to correct later on down the line.
Seeing the easy out the princess unintentionally provided Mal wasted no time in taking it, "yes, yes exactly."
Brooke shook her head, "You should have just said something, I'm sure Ben wouldn't have been opposed to the idea. He once told me something about a dream of a girl with purple hair," Mal's face flushed realizing that she had a similar dream of Ben, it had been forgotten till now. Brooke smirked, a soul connection one of the purest forms of love there was. One she once though was impossible and unbelievable.
Evie drew the attention away from Mal so she could recollect herself, "why didn't Carlos' cookie work on you?" She asked doing Brooke's nails dark blue and black.
Brooke bit her lip, she didn't feel like admitting to anyone yet that she had feeling. She didn't see many other options though. She opted for the truth, the whole truth. Something she never shared, it was a testament to how much she trusted Mal and Evie, "I may have some feelings for Carlos as it is. The dreams happened to me too." It was true but she honestly believed it was because of her magic, and not because of a soul connection. She didn't think that was in the cards for her. Evie and Mal both genuinely looked happy for Carlos, he was always left behind and second best to Jay, in his shadow, and now a princess liked him, he was her first choice. "But even if I didn't, it wouldn't work. I have powerful magic, so do you, but your magic is still blocked up, so you didn't have enough in the cookie to affect me," she said. She had no expression during the second part of her explanation.
Mal was starting to worry how this would all turn out.
"Thats great I need to get you guys together!" Evie said with a loud squeal, forgetting the plan for the wand for a minute.
"No," Brooke deadpanned, "I gave up my right to be happy like that a long time ago. I can't let anyone in; I have too much at stake," she told them as Mal dried her nails with a spell. She grabbed some green and purple and moved to do Mals nails as Evie did Brooke's hair.
"But that's not fair to you, Ben gets to have a relationship, but you don't?" Mal asked rhetorically. "If you want one that is."
"She's got a point," Evie said. "You deserve it as much as he does."
Mal dried her nails and Brooke straightened her hair as Evie was still curling Brookes. "I do, but I have so much on the line. I have everything under lock and key I can't let just anybody in," she said.
Mal painted Evie's nails blue and red, and Brooke straightened her hair. Mal said she shouldn't be allowed near hair with a hot iron. "Well, you're only 16 you deserve to have some fun. I am so getting you guys together, expect a date soon," Evie smiled cheekily.
She sighed, "one date. That's it," she had a feeling in her gut, something good is gonna happen. However, she would never get her hopes up. She never got her hopes up that way she never got disappointed. The one time she had high hopes for the future she was snatched away from Neverland, and her mind never really recovered. Being able to just imagine something and it happens, then having that taken away and told no magic under any circumstances hurts a lot. From playing pretended that Peter pan was the father of their group to the realization that it was a grown man with no imagination. From playing all day and night to training and meetings. Feeling that Peter had abandoned her to grow up when he so hated grown-ups, from being a lost girl to a princess, it all left its strain on your mind.
