Chapter Seven Kyiira

Despite her feelings of growing hatred for Level One, somehow Kyiira found herself reclining on a bench inside a park. The park was picturesque, lush green grass, obviously fake. Tall, towering trees that provided shade to the weary exerciser, those fake as well. The flowers that dotted the meadow were plastic and infused with an air freshener that would give off the scent of the flowers. The bushes and shrubs shone in the bright, blinding sun. Children and mothers lined the walkways, giggling and skipping about absurdly.

Kyiira sat in the midst of this, looking like a smear of death, with her black clothes, dark hair and scowling expression. Her weapons were not visible but the way she moved, with barely controlled power, yet lethal grace, warned people to stay away.

Not that she minded, of course. She enjoyed being left alone in her solitude and silence. This was part if the job, she reasoned with herself. I am trying to find out what makes these people tick, and how they will react when their beloved leader is gone. Though she assumed his unnamed son would step up and grasp the power.

That's how they all were, power-hungry little demons. Despite the peoples efforts to prevent selfish leaders from ruling,so that if another catastrophic even happened, everyone would not immediately rip each other's throats out. Unfortunately humans are corrupt and the Senators were the same greed consumed ones they had been made to replace.

Kyiira stood breaking her train of thoughts. She felt her feet lead her in the direction of the Level One Grand Library, the only reason she sometimes enjoyed her visits to the world above.

The Grand Library stretched an entire block. It was said to contain every book ever written and published on this Continent. Kyiira was usually read fictional stories and occasional political biographies, but today she head to the history section. Perusing the shelves full of glowing datapads; each containing a book, she finally settled on one titled, Before the Failure.

Not many people liked to read about the Failure, they tended to stay away from the subject. Besides the schools, rarely anyone visited the history section, so Kyiira was alone.

SHe slid into a seat at the closest table and opened the data pad. She scrolled through the chapter lazily until her attention caught something on the screen. It read:

And so the former continents gave up their names, becoming numbered one through six. But after the former conte it's had decided to give up their titles, wealth and leaders, betrayal struck. The leader of ******** orchestrated a plot. The leader of ********* as assassinated but ******** did not stop there. They wanted rule everyone one. They destroyed ******** and

Suddenly the datapad screen went black and then flashed a warning

CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

USER NOT AUTHORIZED

"What the...?" Kyiira muttered aloud.

"Hey! What you do you think you're doing?"

Kyiira looked up to see a librarian barreling toward her. The woman looked like her face was permanently stamped in a frowning position as she reached the table. "Give me that," She snatched the datapad off the table and tucked it into her jacket.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Sorry." Kyiira raised her hands in surrender. "I was just looking for some information. Speaking of which would you mind telling me why some of the words were blacked out?"

The woman pressed her lips together, then firmly shook her head. "That's none of your business."

"Well i think it is, because i was the one reading the book and i would like to know the answer." She cocked an eyebrow at the woman.

"No, you need to leave. Now. This was a mistake, the book was not authorized to be on the shelf for public viewing."

"Then how did it end up there?"

"As i told you, it was simply a mistake. Now i'm going to have to ask you to leave."

Kyiira stood and watched the woman's retreating back. If the information was that confidential it should not be stored at the public library, it should be at the Senators Mansion. Kept safe and locked away. How the hell did it get here?

She considered trailing the woman to see where she put the data pad but decided against it. It was probably nothing too important. Still she could not shake that feeling in her gut, telling her something was not right here.

Well, she thought with a smirk, I'll be at the Mansion myself tonight. Won't hurt to take a look around.
