She had always loved how clary resembled the nephilim, but was sorry because nephilim was who she is, and had always felt that something was missing, but she kept going fighting to become herself... alec never felt whole or did anything about that feeling, she had thought every one felt that way. till she read the mortal instruments series and realised she had a part missing and it needed retrieving.
