New Years Eve, 1996.
Mason rolled over in the bed and yawned as he stretched, reaching for his girlfriend but all he felt was air. He rubbed his eyes and sat up in the bed, looking around. The door was open , the blinds were open, and the smell of breakfast invaded his nostrils. Getting out the bed, he exited the room and walked into the kitchen. He instantly seen her curly red hair and curvy body making him realize that it wasn't Mykah.
"Good morning." Genesis said in a sing song voice without turning around. Mason wondered how she even heard him come out of the bedroom because he hadn't even made a sound.
"Good morning. Where's Mykah?" He wondered. "Oh she went out for a few things for the party later on tonight. Are you hungry?" She turned off the stove and turned around with a plate of food in her hand.
Mason scratched the back of his neck nervously and shrugged. "I guess I could eat." He walked over to the island where Genesis sat the hot plate of food in front of him. She placed a glass of orange juice and his utensils in front of him.
"Enjoy." She smiled and walked back over to the sink where she began to wash the dishes. Mason dug into his food without hesitation. He ate in silence and she washed the dishes in silence. No words were exchanged amongst the two but it didn't bother Mason. She made him feel uncomfortable and he was happy she wasn't talking to him.
"Any plans for tonight? I can't believe it's about to be 1997. Time goes by so fast doesn't it?" She asked while placing a bowl in the rack.
Mason swallowed his scrambled eggs. "Mykah and I were going to a party downtown later on."
"Really what party?"
"Oh you know, just a rooftop party somebody I know is throwing. Not a big deal but um.. you and her made up or something?" He asked her. He was curious as to why Mykah would be getting her things as if they didn't just fight yesterday.
"Yeah." She chuckled. "Mothers and daughters fight, you know. But we always make up. That's my baby." Genesis dried off her hands on her satin gown and turned around, leaning against the sink. The gown was baby blue with white lace at the top and a deep v cut. It stopped at her knees and outlined her shape well. Mason looked down at his food nervously.
"Why are you so nervous?" Genesis chuckled while staring at him. His body language was telling it all. He looked uncomfortable as he shifted his eyes from the floor to his homemade waffles she prepared for him.
"I'm not nervous." He lied, taking a sip of juice. "I'm not gonna do anything you don't want me to do Mason. What do I look like seducing a college boy? And plus, I'm in a happy relationship with my man and I respect you and my daughters relationship. You guys are cute together." She ended her statement with a small smile.
Mason stared at her for a second before dumping the rest of his food in the trash. He brushed past her and placed his dish in the soapy water. Genesis held her breath as she took a whiff of what he smelled like. She wanted to touch him so bad but she knew she had to wait. Just wait Gen. He not gong no where. She reminded herself. Just wait.

Later during the day, Mykah and Genesis cleaned up the 3 story house and began to decorate. Genesis was throwing a New Years party which a lot of her friends and family planned on coming too. They jammed to 80s R&B while they put up streamers and blew up balloons.
