We left the house as soon as we could. Drake demanded that we leave, and Amber and I agreed. We walked back down the main road back into the city where we came from. The wind swept the leaves into the empty road. The towering building began to dominate the sky again as they came into view.
"Were gonna need some more food soon, almost out." Amber said weakly.
"Ok." Drake quietly said.
We continued to walk through the empty streets filled with abandoned cars. I looked around and saw the bodies of those who couldn't make. They just sat there rotting away. I turned my head, I couldn't look anymore.
"What's tha-" a light shined through the window of one of the buildings.
"Raiders!" Drake yelled running behind the cars. Amber followed him then I. As we ran bullets started to pierce the ground behind us.
"Drake, they're shooting at us." I whispered aggressively. "Are we just going to sit here while they shoot us?"
"What do you want me to do?" He snapped.
We sat there in suspense as the bullets shot through the street. Footsteps seemed to grow louder as the bullets stopped. Silence was in the air as the footsteps ceased.
"What are they going to do to us?" I mumbled underneath my breath. We sat there breathing heavily waiting for something to happen.
"Sonja!" a voice yelled "Don't approach them yet, let them come out."
"They're right here" I mumbled again waiting for a response.
Drake sat there trying to look for a way out, as Amber and I tried to see how close they were. I fumbled around for my switchblade as Amber continued to whisper to Drake.
"I think I found a way out." I heard Drake say.
I crawled over to him and looked as he pointed to our possible escape. His escape plan was to crouch behind all the cars and into the bushes far away, only if we could sneak past them, and judging by how many I managed to see, our chance seemed dim.
"You sure?" I questioned him.
"For now...this is our only option."
Amber and I trailed behind him as he started to crawl behind the cars. "Stay down!" he would whisper aggressively. We crawled behind the cars until we got to the bushes. I could hear them walk by us as we crawled that made me shiver in fear. What would they do to us if they caught us? I dwelled on these grim possibilities as we got closer to our escape.
"Here, come on. We need to go fast once you get to the other side start running."
Amber and I nodded in agreement. Amber crawled through the bushes as I crawled behind her. I worried about what might be on the other side, what if we couldnt escape them? Amber went first through the bushes then I. As we crawled through the bushes we were scratched and blinded by them.
Once we reached the other side Amber collapsed onto the sidwalk trying to escape the hold of the bushes as I attemped to get out around her."Shouldn't Drake be over here now?" she whispered.
"He was supposed to follow right behind us, unless he-" I could hear yelling coming from behind us.
"Oh my god, they didnt-" Amber stopped as looked at her with a worried expression and nodded.
We crouched by the bushes and thought about what we should do. Whatever we may choose, might lead us to death or something else. Amber and I in silence as we drowned ourselves with possiblites of helping Drake.
