I run into the forest, forgetting about the strange approach of something earlier on. Pines on the trees prickle my arms making the small cuts more sore but that doesn't stop me. I run up to a small fire going out. A fire I lit earlier. So I'm going the right way. The speed of my heart picks up. From running, yes. But from nervousness also. Was that a person earlier? Or some creature that walks on twos and not fours? Both is terrifying. I run out of the forest and regret going in there altogether. I should've stayed back and helped solve my mothers murder. Mourning her death in a strange abandoned building in the forest and then nearly get crushed to death by a chandelier? I would have been safer back at the hotel.

Speaking of the hotel, I'm two blocks away from it. I run down the street and past people and they give me strange and scared looks. A seventeen year old girl emerging from the forest with arms covered in cuts, that's not something you see everyday.

I arrive at the hotel and the guards are getting in their cars and I run up to one before he gets in, "Excuse me officer?" I ask. He turns to look at me and his eyes widen. "You're daughter of Stella Ross, uhh... Mackenzie Ross?" The police asks.

"Yes. I was wondering did you find any clues of the murder?" I ask. I need to find out about my mothers murder. There's no way she committed suicide, she was happy even though people spread rumors she took drugs and she was losing it even though she wasn't. I have to find out about this.

"No clues left behind, sorry. And I'm sorry for your loss." The officer says to me with an apologetic look. I think about it.

"Ok, I'm going to help with the murder case. I'm going to have a journal to mark down any clues and a camera and I'm going to stay in this hotel. There's no stopping me. Also, visit everyday and I'll tell you what I found." I say.

"But Miss," The officer starts to object but I interfere, "No! Let me! I know what I'm doing!" I say. The officer thinks about it and then says, "I'll be back tomorrow. And, have this." He says and hands me a loaded gun. "Be very careful. The people were evacuated so it's only you there. And we have the guests of the hotel, so watch out and don't be foolish with this weapon. Go in there if you're going to solve this." And he walks me into the hotel and I'm shocked he let me do this, especially with a weapon without asking questions. "Good luck." And he leaves with a nod.

I have a journal I didn't start writing in up in my hotel room and a camera. I guess I'm ready. Time to investigate, I guess?

I walk around, confused that I'm doing this with no detective and there could be a murderer hiding here. But I'm not letting my mothers death slip by me.
