Chapter 13 - Thieves' Hideout

Lucy's POV

We were hiding outside the thieves' hideout in the bushes, waiting for our time to strike. Erza had me and Natsu in her hands because she didn't trust Natsu to stay still and she's correct. Natsu has been struggling in her hand for the last five minutes, "I'm sick of waiting. Let me be a ninja!" he complained. "Natsu, be patience" I said and then Erza tightened her grip on Natsu. All the wind was squeezed out of him and he went limp in her hand. "Erza, Natsu's dying" Gray said as he pointed at Natsu's limp body. "Whoops" Erza said as she opened her hand and Natsu took a big breath in. "I thought I was going to die" I heard him mutter to himself.

"Alright it's time, go Natsu and Lucy" Erza said and put us down. We ran towards the entrance and stopped before entering to check the coast is clear. Two thieves were guarding the entrance but were busy playing a game of cards. We snuck around them and continued deeper into the hideout when we hit a fork in the road. "You take left and I'll take right" I said and I was about to run down my hallway when Natsu shouted "wait!"

"What's wrong?" I asked, "I think we should stay together. If you get caught, Loke isn't going to be very helpful as a lion cub" he replied. He had a point but I was sure I'll figure something out. "I'll figure something out but if I don't meet you back here in fifteen minutes then get everyone" I said, "alright, good luck" he replied and licked my cheek before running off down his hallway.

I ran down my hallway and found a recreational hall where I saw the thieves playing a game of pool with drinks in their hands. While they were chatting and focusing on the game, I snuck around their feet to search for the necklace. Occasionally I looked up to make sure they haven't spotted me.

'Not here' I thought as I silently exited the room. I went further down the hallway and found an empty mess hall. Luckily Natsu didn't take this hallway or he would've eaten the whole kitchen. I doubted they would hide a necklace in a mess hall but I couldn't leave without checking. Who knows, maybe they hid it here because they knew people wouldn't think to look here. After checking the whole room, I didn't find the necklace and left to go meet up with Natsu. Maybe he had better luck than I did.

I retraced my steps and waited for him at the meeting place. It became way past the meeting time and I was getting a bit worried. "Where is that idiot?" I mumbled to myself as I look down the hallway he took. I felt hands wrap themselves around my body and lift me up. I whip my head around and saw two thieves. "Look what we have here" the thief holding me said, 'oh great...' I thought.

"Awe how did you get in here kitty?" the other thief said as he pet my head. "Do you think the boss will let us keep her?" thief one asked. "I think he'll let us keep her but are we sure it's a girl?" thief two asked. They lifted me up a bit higher and checked my gender. I scratched the thief's hand in embarrassment. "Ow, she's a girl alright" thief one said. That was more humiliating than when the mother cat kidnapped me and gave me a tongue bath.

"Hey Lushi I found thee necklash" Natsu muffled with the necklace in his mouth as he came up to us. The thieves were too busy petting me to noticed a pink kitten at their feet. "Natsu, take the necklace back to the others" I whispered to him. He spat out the necklace before speaking. "I'm not leaving you behind" he said and then he looked like he got an idea because he smirked deviously. Leaving the necklace where it was, he ran around the thieves. I couldn't see what he was doing until I smelt something burning.

The thieves screamed and dropped me before they bolted down the hallway with their butts on fire. Luckily, I landed on my feet and I think I was getting use to falling out of people's hands. "Come on Lushi" Natsu muffled with the necklace back in his mouth and I followed him out of the hideout.

We reached our friends and Natsu gave the necklace to Happy. "I can't believe Flame Brain actually found it. I was sure he would've messed it up like our other jobs" Gray said. "I've never messed up a job" Natsu hissed and charged at him. Gray stuck out his finger out and pushed against Natsu forehead who pushed back. "Fight me like a man!" Natsu shouted as he tried to scratch Gray but his reach was too short. 'He could scratch him if he moved to the side' I rolled my eyes and then giggled. He can be such an idiot sometimes but he's my idiot.
