The Awakening of Otari

Chapter 2

          I felt something pushing on my chest and I started hearing faint voices that slowly turned into frantic yells as the pushing on my chest continued, I opened my eyes slightly then coughed and gagged as water poured out of my mouth and I turned onto my side coughing up more water, after I finished heaving up water, I went to stand up but got light-headed and was caught by the Royal guard as he laid me back down on the grass, I glanced up at him seeing the other guards around him then I passed out. 

          "Sir, he seems to have injured his leg, which might have been part of the reason why he almost drowned" stated one of the guards as he stepped forward.

           "well then... I'll take him to the hospital and make sure he is ok, we still have to question him after all, as for the time being the rest of you take statements from those kids hiding in the tree" stated the Royal guard as he stood up and picked me up and carried me to the hospital as the rest of the guards took the statements of the kids hiding in the willow tree. 

          "Has he woken up yet?" asked the royal guard as he entered the room.

          "no sir he hasn't, " said a nurse as she looked up from her clipboard.

          "What are his injuries?" asked the royal guard.

          "he had a fractured bone in his foot for having something hitting it from a side angle and other bruises from being hit with a hard object, as well and a few old cuts and old broken bones we hadn't had a chance to fix yet" stated the nurse as she showed the royal guard an x-ray of my foot and other old broken bones.

          As the royal guard and the nurse were talking I opened my eyes and stared up at the ceiling, my ears twitched and I turned and stared at the royal guard and the nurse for a while until they noticed that I was awake, the royal guard walked over and pulled a chair over and sat in front of me staring his stern eyes right into me.

           "Care to explain why I saw you running out of that school the other day, and why you ran today? Asked the royal guard as he sat back in the chair, as I sat up noticing the cuffs around my hands and looked around the room.

          "Answer the question kid, what were you doing in that school in the first place and why did you run" growled the royal guard as he grew impatient.

          "Aren't kids supposed to be in schools?" I asked in an annoyed tone.

          "stop being a smartass Kid, Answer my question, I know you don't go to that or any school" growled the royal guard in an angered tone as I sighed heavily.

          "I was listening in on a lesson that the teacher was giving, then when I get caught I'd go into town but the only reason why I ran today was, I knew you were going to question me," I said as I looked at the royal guard with dull eyes. 

          "Also where are my clothes?" I asked as I looked up at the nurse.

          "Their drying" said the nurse as she left the room. I turned and sat crisscrossed in front of the royal guard and held up my hands.

         "Care to explain?" I said in a bored tone.

          "Just safety measures" stated the Royal guard as I muttered

           "Do you do this to all people you assume to be suspicious?" I asked with more annoyance in my tone than I meant to have.

           "Nope, just you" hummed the Royal guard as he leaned toward me. 

"Well, do I feel special, though I'm not liking the tightness of the cuffs, " I said in a sarcastic tone as I glared at the royal guard.

          "If you would stand I'd like to see how your foot is doing" stated the royal guard as he stood up.

          "I'm not moving till I get my clothes and belongings back," I said as I stared straight into the royal guard's eyes.

          "Alright, but don't even try running, you might hurt yourself more" stated the guard as he pushed a call button on the bed and a nurse entered the room 

          "could you bring the kids clothes and whatever belongings he had on him," asked the royal guard as he faced the nurse 

          "yes, Sir," said the nurse as she left and returned with a small bag and a stack of clothes and set them on a chair and left. I pulled the iv out of my arm and slid off the bed and onto the floor, I kept my hurt foot off the floor then placed it down putting weight on it for a second, my foot hurt so bad but I forced myself to put as much weight on it and limped over to the chair where my clothes and the small bag were I picked up the small bag and looked inside and pulled out a necklace with a fire shaped jewel on it and a few coins, then put the coins and necklace back in the bag and picked up the clothes and limped back over to the bed. 

          "Y-you have a tail!" exclaimed the Royal guard as he pointed to my tail with wide eyes, my heart skipped a beat as I remember about my tail and I looked behind and saw it lashing side to side as if it was happy to be free, as my eyes drew back towards the royal guard I saw his hand reach for me and in a quick instant my body moved before I could think.

          I broke the cuffs around my hand grabbing the bag and my clothes in hand, I ran then jumped through the room's window, I hit the ground rolling then skidded on my feet but fell on my side as my foot gave off a pain and I looked up at the window seeing the royal guard shouting then I took off running at my fastest limping speed. I dashed through the crowded town and to the gate of the park, I breathed heavily and I limped to the willow tree and looked up at it's branched then I climbed the willow tree and sat on a branch that I always sat on when I climbed this tree.

          I set my pile of clothes down and started getting dressed and after I was dressed I took the necklace from the bag and put it on, I climbed down from the tree and put my hood on and limped out of the park and towards the school. I got to the school and I snuck in again, I walked down the halls to class A and strained my ears and listened from outside the door to see if the class was in learning, I didn't hear anything besides the sound of a person writing so I knocked on the door and waited for an answer, a minute had past and as I was about to knock again the door opened and a student walked out of the class and the teacher stood in the doorway.

          "out of my way," said the student as he cold-shouldered me and left the school, I stood for a second then grabbed my shoulder as it now ached in pain.

          "were you the one knocking?" asked the teacher as she looked at me then her expression changed to an angry look, I looked down at the floor and felt her eyes staring into me.

          "I... I'm sorry for disrupting your classes" I said as I bent and bowed.

          "I just wanted to listen in on the lesson you were teaching" I added as I stayed in a bow position.

         "well I can't stay mad at a kid that wants to learn, I'll set aside an extra desk and if you come to listen in tomorrow sit in the desk in the back corner" she said as she sat back in her chair and faced me as I rose from the bow position I was in.

         "what happened to your leg? It wasn't like that when you ran out of my class earlier today" she asked as she was looking down at my leg.

          "Oh um, a bunch of rocks came flying out of nowhere and one hit my foot and hurt my leg badly" I explained as I looked at the clock on the wall as it read 4:00.

         "well, you might as well get home kid" she said as she waved  to me and turned back to her papers, I turned and limped out of the classroom and into the hall and slowly made my way out of the school and as I exited the school front doors my ears twitched a low growl escaped my throat as I jumped aside and dodged a net that came out of nowhere.
