13. Peace, the year of the Phoenix
Dear Angel,
As I have told you before, yesterday was Mischief's birthday. I must admit it was an awesome party and Mischief was a gracious host, so unlike her usual self.
Fairy birthday parties are usually awesome on their own, but this party since it was human-elf-fairy party was even better since it combined different things from different traditions. That is what Mischief wanted, to show off her heritage as well as us, her adoptive family that was more real than the biological one.
So her birthday party had some funny things that are common for human birthday parties such as a birthday cake which mom managed to make amazingly well having in mind that was her first try. It was a big chocolate cake, and she only used magic for decorations, everything else was done by hand, and I must say it was delicious.
It had three tiers and every one of them was decorated differently. The first tier was decorated by what we thought was human tradition, I am not true if it truly was but it did look nice a child blowing out candles, cake fireworks and people cheering.
The second tier of the cake had dancing elves on it and since it was magically made they were actually moving in the traditional way of the Elves. They were jumping and twirling like crazy since mom had chosen to put one of the more energetic dances having in mind how full of energy Mischief could sometimes be.
As for the third one, it was the most beautiful one if you ask me because it represented the fairy life and the magic of it all with a few fairies flying around, dancing in the air. It was magic and grace rolled into one and it was simply mesmerizing.
On the top of the cake, there was a small figure of Mischief all covered in dirt, the way we mostly saw her on daily bases and next to it was the clean, nicely dressed figure of her how we sometimes had the honor to see her.
Anyways besides the cake, there were red rose petals thrown in the air as she blew out her candles and the magical fairy works started in the beautiful garden where we were celebrating her birthday. It was similar to human confetti only much better.
Of course, the main celebrating was in the nighttime but during the day we had a special feast in her honor, and we gave her our presents but saved the best for the last since the fireworks required darkness as well as the cake. It looked much better shimmering in the dark.
As you might have guessed, my birthday present was the best one of them all. Knowing that when it came to human stories my sister really loved reading Aladdin, I gave her a magic lamp. It was filled with some of my fairy dust and designed to look and act the same as the real one. If she rubbed the lamp she would get three wishes.
Okay, three small wishes since I wasn't that powerful yet but still I think that is quite an awesome gift and from the squealing and jumping around the Mischief did I can't help but assume that she thought the same.
Mom and dad bought her a beautiful sparkling necklace while Peace and Chatterbox worked together to catch the most beautiful lizard and give it to her as a pet. She might have been exhilarated by their gift by still think that mine was the most useful one.
Her friends also joined us in the celebration, and I am not sure what was more diverse, the gifts they gave to her or the different beings that came to her birthday party. There were gnomes, elves, nice trolls, a few fairies, and many others.
I guess that is the reason the presents they gave her were so different from one another. Everyone brought what THEY loved and that didn't always match up with what Mischief like, but she was always very grateful and polite.
It seems that she had gathered many friends, from a vast range of different species that her adventures and often time misadventures had led her to. Honestly, at one point I was even a bit jealous because I had few friends and most of us are misfits or hybrids while she had other friends as well.
I know, I know, I shouldn't be jealous of my own sister, and I am usually not. I love her and her awesome personality, as well as her flaws but sometimes I do wish I could be more like her.
After all, she is an outsider, and yet she did manage to gather a huge array of friends, even though most species, in general, avoid humans as much as they do hybrids. However, whenever they get the chance to spend some time with her they change their minds which I can't say is the same for me.
Don't get me wrong, I do have some friends, but they are mostly either elves (who turned out to be the most open-minded species ever) or hybrids and I do want to meet others, to enjoy their way of seeing the world.
Anyways, back to the party and how fun it was. It was as fun as chasing butterflies, if I am being honest, and I LOVE chasing those little beauties maybe even as much as Mischief.
For the party, mom and dad prepared many games and dances that were the most common among different species. For example, the human game they chose was hitting the pinata and must I admit, for a violent game, it was actually quite fun.
As for the fairy games, we played the Floating Bubble game in which mom made the regular bubbles stronger and squishy and the goal of the game was for each one of us to catch one colorful bubble. Then mom and dad would yell out the color and the person with the bubble which was in that color would win the prize. Prizes went from sweets to experiences, such as for non-fairies to fly by being carried up by my mom and so on.
Elf games were more focused on dancing than I expected. For example, my favorite game was Follow the Elf Move game in which the elf would perform some dance moves and the others had to try to follow them as closely as they could. Some moves were easy enough but the longer the game lasted the more difficult the moves had become until finally there was only one person left, the winner of the Follow the Elf Move game.
Finally, we play some hybrid games, that is to say, some games that were invented by me, the greatest game maker hybrid in the world. Probably the only one as well since my friend Echo and some other hybrids I know are not so interested in making games. I can't understand how anyone could not be interested in it!
Anyway, my games were awesome as always and everyone enjoyed them immensely. They especially loved the Make Your Funny Self game where they could use a special set of different potions and magic dust to turn themselves into something funny. Let's just say that seeing your sister as a green goblin sure is a fun way to spend her birthday.
We all participated in the game and I can't decide whose transformation was the funniest because everything was hilarious. Maybe any transformation of an adult was a bit funnier for us than it should be, but we are children after all.
As for me, I got turned into a strange bird that had no wings and walked funny. They explained to me that I was a penguin and since I had never seen penguins before that I was quite surprised at how fun and funny they truly were.
Anyway, I better get going, it's boiling hot today and I want to cool down in the sea and maybe just relax a bit on the beach.
Forever your friend,
Joy
