14. Peace, the year of the Phoenix
Dear Angel,
There is another thing I forgot to tell you about Mischief's birthday that I am sure you will find interesting to know. In honor of her birthday, our parents allowed her to tell her own tale at nighttime. It was quite an interesting tale.
So once we were ready for bed, Mischief sat down in the armchair with an air of importance, obviously pretending to be an adult and started telling us a story. Honestly, her storytelling was like nothing I have ever heard and although some parts were a bit strange, I actually liked it very much.
"Once upon a time, in a land far far away there was a beautiful human girl born." Mischief started her story.
"She was the fairest one in the land, envied by all. From that envy came an order from the queen to take her away and leave her in the woods." She went on.
"Stop telling us Snow White!" Chatterbox interrupted.
"It's not Snow White! Listen to the whole story before you start guessing." Mischief yelled back at our brother.
"Anyway the most beautiful human being that was ever born was left all alone in the big, dark forest. Although it was scary the brave little human was not afraid, instead, she started off to explore the forest and that was when she found an elf and a fairy. They were so enchanted by the little human that they decided to adopt her and that was how all her adventures started.
There were many adventures the brave little girl went through, many memorable events had happened but for today's tale, you shall hear the untold tale of what once was.
One day as she was walking around the forest minding her own business, well, maybe, she might have been looking for another adventure, but that's not important. As I was saying, as she was walking down the forest path she heard a strange rustling in the leaves.
Curious as she was, she hurried to see what it was without fear or doubt. At first, she couldn't see anything but the bushes and leaves but soon enough she noted something moving among all the greenery, something not too big and very active.
As always she decided that the best thing to do would be to take a closer look, so she jumped into the bushes trying to catch whatever it was. Although a lot of leaves went into her eyes and mouth she still accomplished what she set out to do.
Soon enough she could feel something soft and fluffy wiggling in her arms and when her eyes were finally able to see she realized that it was a small monkey which was definitely not a common sight in their forest.
After realizing she meant pure creature no harm it started climbing up her body and set on her shoulder while wrapping its tail around her neck. The special little girl was so happy that she never wanted to let go of her furry little friend whom she decided to call Fluffy.
Still, smart as she was, the little girl knew that her mom and dad wouldn't allow her to have a monkey as a pet, so she thought of a story she could tell them. A story so good that they would just have to accept her new pet, let her keep him and stay inseparable with the cute little guy.
When her parents weren't home, she snuck the little guy near the house and started secretly feeding him bananas until he started hanging out in front of their house permanently. She taught him well.
Then when her parents came back she pretended that the monkey just appeared and stayed there. After being asked if she had fed the said monkey she denied it with all her heart and begged her parents to let her feed the monkey since it was already there.
Finally, feeling sorry for the poor monkey whom they assumed got lost and had no food or home, they allowed her to feed the monkey and for it to stay. Luckily for the brave human, that particular monkey was of the rare species with which fairies and elves didn't know how to communicate, otherwise he might have told the truth.
Anyway, the little girl started spending all her free time playing with the monkey, feeding it and generally just having fun. For a time all was well and life was a perfect fairy tale.
However, after a month or two something strange started happening. Other exotic animals started appearing on their doorstep with whom they didn't know how to talk and who seemed to want food as well.
Giving food to them wasn't a problem but some animals that started visiting were not as small or as cute as the monkey. Although the amazing little girl knew that the animals meant no harm, some of their friends and family members feared them and insisted that they should not keep such dangerous animals in a house that had children in it.
At first, the little girls' parents ignored the comments since they wanted to make their daughter happy but when they opened the door one day and saw that the monkey brought with it a cheetah, they had enough of the animal kingdom at their front door.
So they told their little girl to say goodbye to her precious friend and that they would take him to a better place, where monkeys were always happy and had everything they needed. They were hoping that with the monkey gone, all the other animals would leave as well, and they were right.
The little girl couldn't help but cry because she lost her best friend but after some time her tears stopped, and she was happy that her friend was among his own, among the ones who could understand all of its needs.
The wonderful girl found new friends, and she liked to think that the same was true for her dear friend Fluffy. The end." Mischief said.
The moment she said that, she started yawning as if the storytelling was the most exhausting thing ever, and she hurried off to her bed. The moment her head hit the pillow she was fast asleep but I couldn't help but think about her story.
I knew about Fluffy, of course, but I don't remember him, if I was even born when he was around, but I think that was the first time she had told all of us the actual truth about Fluffy's mysterious appearance. Maybe if mom and dad allowed her to tell us stories every day we would learn how truly mischievous she could be.
I feel like from all her misadventures the story of Fluffy is the cutest one I have ever heard, and I was so glad she shared it with us, in her own strange way.
Anyways, I have to go now, I promised Mischief that I would help her with some magic she is trying to study, and she really doesn't like it when I am late, especially for something magic related.
I do hope you loved hearing this story about my sister, that it helps you understand that there are many sides to her personality and every one of them is precious.
See you next time,
Always your friend,
Joy
