Chapter 9: The Order

"You didn't have to come with me you know. I'm perfectly capable of walking through the castle without an escort." Oscar said as he and Abellina walked side by side through the near pitch black castle. A few forlorn candles flickered and illuminated their faces but it was just enough to see by.

"Nonsense, what kind of person would I be if I let you walk back to your dorm all alone through the dark scary castle." Abellina replied dramatically, laughter bubbling in her voice as she flung herself against him- causing him to raise his eyebrows.

"True, but now who's going to walk you back?" He replied in a dead pan tone which caused Abellina to furrow her brow before jumping slightly and announcing that:

"The ghosts will!" The childish glee on her face as she giggled at his perplexity lit up the immediate area. They'd both been studying in the library and then went to the kitchens. They had managed to loose track of time somewhere between eating and chatting so now they were sneaking through the castle at night.

"You really are different Abby, in a good way of course."

"Well obviously. I would find it insulting if you suggested I was normal." Oscar chuckled at this, reaching out and ruffling her shaggy bob with a calloused hand.

"You sure you'll be alright on your own?" He asked, turning to face her as they reached the foot of Ravenclaw tower.

"I'm a big strong girl, I think I can cope!" Abellina shrieked, already skipping in the other direction and leaving Oscar in her midst, her jacket which was tied around her shoulders flapping behind her like a superhero's cape.

"Goodnight!" He yelled from behined her but she didn't seem to hear and he retreated up the stairs whilst slowly shaking his head- he could still hear her laughter down the corridor.

"Ah, to what do I owe this pleasure Miss Avery, Mr Potter, Mr Black, Mr Lupin and Mr Pettigrew?" Dumbledore asked, closing a heavy looking volume as he raised his head to face his students.

"I do hope we're not disturbing you headmaster?" Abellina started, as it was already agreed that she would do all of the talking.

"Not at all, not at all. Take a seat, please." He conjured five cushy armchairs with purle and yellow stars embroidered on the midnight blue material that matched the professors robes. His eyes crinkled as he beckoned them over, waving an arm in such a slow, labourous way that it seemed a heavy weight.

"It's about the order. We are all well aware of what's going on outside the castle and are hoping to join as soon as we are of age. However, as the war gets worse and we think about it more it seems ridiculous to wait another year. It's effecting our academic studies for us to just be sitting here and waiting and wondering when we feel that we should be fighting or at the very least working in an organisational capacity. We fully understand and support whatever you decide but we figured we should at least ask if we could join now or perhaps after our OWLs- providing our results are satisfactory." Having put forwards her argument Abellina leant forwards slightly, pressing her fingers together in an attempt to stop her hands from shaking. The four boys who had all been nodding along in agreement imitated her movements in a way that would seem like comedy to the casual observer.

"I understand your frustration but it is the orders policy that you cannot enter until you are of age-" Dumbledore started, apology clear in his twinkling eyes as he lowered his half-moon glasses to enable him to see them properly
