Olivers Pov
Coach: Oliver come sit on the bench. Kalle you're covering for him, go out on the field.
Oliver: But I scored! I'm needed on the field. Give me another chance!
Coach: You barely got that one and you've already missed 5 times. You've had your chance. Your're not concentrated so I won't let you play until you've calmed down. I don't want you to ruin your future career more than you already have.
Oliver: But..
Coach: Oliver, you know I'm doing this for your own best. Just sit!
I curse to myself as I sit down. Even though I don't want to admit it, coach is right. I didn't do anything good the entire time I was on the field. The only thing I can think of is Gavin.. How could I let a small fight with him ruin everything for the others in the team?
They're gonna hate me now that I've ruined their chance of winning.. If I could just get on the field again.. But it seems like coach has decided that I won't be playing anymore. There isn't much time left either and the other team has scored way more. It's impossible for us to win now.. To just sit and watch the teams play makes me feel useless, just like when I was younger...
Flashback
I started playing football when I was six. I sucked at playing and I was so sensitive, I would cry all the time over small things. That made me a target for bullying. The other boys in the team would tell me to just give up playing football and play with dolls instead because that fit me better. The older girls would call me cute which didn't help either, it just increased the comments about how girly I was.
At some point I was ready to just give up but then I met Gavin. We quickly became friends and he managed to convince me to continue. To me Gavin was one of the coolest people I've met and I wanted to be like him, so I decided to try harder and stop being a crybaby. I also wanted to show the team and the guys that pushed me down how good I could be. So I practiced almost everyday and at some point I became the teams best player. I got the team so far we became one of the best teams and everyone started respecting me. I became the key for the team to win. My teammates are good at passing the ball and I scored the most.
I had finally become an important player and I enjoyed being with the team. I was surrounded by friends so even when other teams offered me a place I didn't accept. The only team I'd want to change to is the one I look up to...
End of flashback
Coach: Oliver, the match is over.. You can leave now and go to the changing room. We will be discussing what we learned and how we can do better next time to become better. Who knows, we might win next time! So cheer up ok? Don't give up just yet.
I get up from the bench and walk towards the car instead. I don't want to see them disappointed at me and hear about how I ruined the match and made them loose. I already know that. I'm sure I wont be accepted so there's no point for me to go there. I just want to leave as quick as possible.
My parents and sister stand next to the car ready to go. When they see me they wave.
O.mom: I saw how it went, but it's nothing to worry about! I know the team means a lot to you but you'll surely get another chance.
Oliver: Shut up! I don't want to hear this right now. Can we just leave.
O.Dad: Oliver, you don't speak like that to your mother!
O.Mom: It's okay, it's tuff for him right now. Let's just go home for now.
The car ride home was for the most part quiet which was good. When we're home I lock myself up in my room and refuse talking to anyone about the match.
