Chapter 12: Day Six: The Necklace

Bella's Pov:
I looked at Maddie and Lauren nodded to the cabin. I sighed and whispered to Maddie, " Someone's in trouble."

She whispered back, " Yeah, probably you, jewelry burglar."

We walked to the cabin together and I whispered back, " It's not burglary if it was yours first."

"Okay you're right, trespasser," Maddie whispered with a smirk.

"It was on camp grounds so technically, not trespassing either," I replied smugly.

She rolled her eyes and we entered the cabin, Vanessa, Maddie, and I walked to our beds and sat down. Paige, Sophie, and Alex were already there sitting on their beds. Lauren cleared her throat, " I'm being disrespected by all of you, so here's what is going to happen if you don't start respecting me," she paused and cleared her throat again, " I will start taking away things from all of you."

" Who's going to tell her we don't care," I say with a small smile.

Lauren turned to me and narrowed her eyes, " I've had just about enough of your shit, Isabella."

" Flush," I replied smugly.

Her eyes went to my neck and she walked up to me and bent down, " I knew you broke into my office as soon as I saw you wearing this stupid necklace again ," she then reached for the necklace and I backed up.

" What the fuck is wrong with you," I replied angrily then I stood up.

She walked in front of me and grabbed my necklace and I wrapped my hands around her hand and stared into her eyes. She pulled down and I could feel the necklace tighten around my neck, she pulled harder and it broke off my neck. I froze, I felt like I was going to be sick, I stared at the broken necklace in her hands. I watched as she threw the necklace on the ground and stepped on it. I looked up and into her eyes and with an angry expression, Maddie noticed this immediately and got up. Lauren looked down at the necklace, " Well, now it's trash."

" Just like you, huh," I say taking a step forward and getting in her face.

Maddie crawled over my bed then got up and stood next to me, she whispered in my ear, " You should go outside and calm down."

I pushed Lauren and Maddie grabbed my arm and led me outside, once we were outside she looked at me sympathetically, " Go for a walk, I'll find you when she leaves."

I nodded and watched her walk into the cabin, I turned around and walked to the dock. I sat down and watched the waves crash against the shore and the sun set. I felt like curling up in a ball and crying, I know I wasn't suppose to have the necklace but she didn't have to break it. Then for her to step on it like it was worthless, it was just disrespectful and I didn't disrespect her to that extent. I drew a sad face in the sand and got up and walked into the woods.

I walked the trail and sat down on the pile of boulders, where Maddie and I sat on our first date. I heard rustling and footsteps coming towards me and I pulled my knees up to my chest. Maya came out of the woods in front and she looked a little concerned, I didn't say anything and looked up at the sky. She walked towards me and sat next to me, " Are you alright ?"

" Why do you care," I asked coldly.

" Because I use to date you and despite what you think I care about you," she replied staring at me.

" Lauren broke my necklace then stepped on it," I blurted out.

I didn't mean to blurt it out like that, but maybe she could help me get over it. She looked at the ground, " Wow, really ? That's such a bitch thing to do, and that's coming from me."

"Yeah. She ripped it off my neck and threw it on the ground and stepped on it," I shook my head and looked at her.

She looked at me with a comforting look, " I'm sure your mom would kick her ass."

I actually smiled at what she said ! I nodded, " I wanted to kick her ass."

" I don't blame you," she responded looking at the ground again.

" Thank you," I replied in a soft voice.

She looked up surprised and looked at me, " No problem, I know it must have sucked for you to watch that."

I nodded, " It did."

There was an awkward moment of silence and she stared at me, " Maddie treats you good."

" Better than you ever did," I replied.

She sadly nodded, " I know, I was pretty stupid to let someone as good as you go."

I looked at her bitterly, " Yeah, you were."

"Maybe I can fix it ," she responded looking at me hopefully.

I looked down at the pebbles by my feet and got lost in my thoughts. Maddie and I are closer than ever now and she wouldn't want me seeing another girl. We're 'friends', though. " How would you do that," I said looking up at her.

She looked at me and then took something out her pocket, I looked at it and it was a necklace. It was golden and in a heart shape and had diamonds all along the heart, it looked familiar. I looked up at her with a confused face, " That's the necklace my dad gave to you when we were dating."

She nodded and reached her arm out for me to take it, " Here, take it."

I had tears in my eyes, " But, you kept it this long ?"

She stared at me for a while, " I never left home without it. I have made mistakes I'm not proud of, but those mistakes, they don't define us, Bella."

Then she reached out and placed it in my hand and closed it in a fist then kissed it gently, " Plus, you need this more than I do right now."

She got up to leave, but I grabbed her arm without thinking I pulled her into me and gave her a hug. " Thank you," I whispered in her ear.

She smiled and hugged back, " You're welcome."

"What the fuck", Maddie said watching the whole thing.
