Chapter 14: Day Six: Love songs

I laid down next to Maddie and we looked up at the stars. " That one is so bright," Maddie says as she points at a star.

I looked up at it and nodded, " Yeah, it is."

She smiled, " Why do you think some stars are brighter than others ?"

" Well, the stars are brighter the closer they are to us. And if they're dimmer it's because they are further away," I explained.

She put her head on my shoulder, " You're my star."

I blushed and looked away, " Because I'm bright ?"

"No, because you're bright and beautiful. And you're easy to admire," she replied tracing circles on my leg.

I smiled and shook my head, " I'm not that special."

She frowned and sat up, " You're to me, though. Even if you don't think so," she laid back down and cuddled into my shoulder, "Sometimes I wish you could see yourself the way I see you."

It went silent for a while, we just gazed up at the stars and didn't speak. Just a few days ago this girl couldn't stand me, and now she's telling me I'm beautiful ? I looked at Maddie and just stared at her, what does she want from me ? I definitely don't want to be just friends with her, I sat up and brought my knees to my chest and looked up," So we're just friends, but we just fucked each other on some rocks ?"

She propped herself up on her elbows and looked at me confused, " Yeah I guess so. Friends with benefits, like we agreed on earlier ?"

" No, you agreed on that earlier, I don't want to be friends with benefits."

" Well, what do you want, I can't date you, you know that."

I sighed and shook my head, " I don't want to do this. I don't want to fall in love with you if we're just going to be friends with benefits forever."

Maddie sat up real quick, " But earlier you said you were fine with it."

I stood up and crossed my arms, " I didn't say I was fine with it, I said I understood you couldn't date me."

She stood up too and she looked a little mad, " Couldn't you have said all this before you fucked me," she paused and looked down, " But fine, I understand too. I guess we'll just be friends from now on then ?"

I nodded, " I guess so."

She walked away and I stood there, then went and sat down on the rocks. Did I do the right thing ? I mean I thought I did, I shouldn't have even brought it up. I took out the necklace Maya gave me earlier and stared at it, why did Maya keep this for so long ? I put the necklace in my pocket and got up then started to walk to the cabin.

I got to the shore of the lake and watched the waves crash against each other. I heard someone call my name and looked and saw Lauren walking towards me. I clenched my fist and looked the other way, Lauren walked up to me and stood there awkwardly, " Um, I'm sorry. About the necklace."

" Okay," I replied bitterly.

She ran her hand through her hair, " I got out of hand and I shouldn't have grabbed it and broke it."
