Niall's POV
She was standing by the large window, sweater hanging onto her fragile body loosely. She had a mug in her right hand, sipping coffee as she stared out the fogged and frosted window panes at the tops of iced trees. She didn't notice my presence creeping up behind her.
I took advantage of that fact and slowly tiptoed across the shiny wooden floors, hoping a creaking noise wouldn't escape from them as I pressed my feet onto them.
I was soon right behind her, trying not to laugh against her neck because of how oblivious she was sometimes.
"Aubree!" I pinched her sides, my voice traveling into her ear an inch away from me.
She yelped, coffee spilling over the edges of the black mug as she jumped. "Niall!"
Annoyance was traced in her voice, but laughter was threaded into it as well.
I giggled behind her, trying to cover her in a hug, but she moved away from me, trailing over to the kitchen for paper towels.
I tried to tell her I'd clean it up, it was my fault, but Aubree, not being quite the morning person, insisted on doing it.
After prying the paper out of her hands as she crouched on the floor, I wiped up the exagerated mess and scooped Aubree against me.
"Stop being grumpy," I kissed her cheek, "I don't like when you're grumpy."
"I'm a grumpy person," she mumbled, voice matching her mood, and snuggled into me.
"Don't say that."
Her hand wandered into mine and played with my fingers.
I kissed her temple, "Wanna go out to dinner tonight, princess?"
"Dinner?" She looked up, questioning me as if 'getting dinner' was some foreign concept. But maybe it was the fact that we would be going out to dinner as a couple, not trying to hide anything from the people around us.
"Yes, dinner."
A day of snuggles and kisses went by, and she even scribbled in her journal a bit as I cuddled her, but she made it clear that I wasn't supposed to read over her shoulder. I wanted to, but I kept my eyes off of her private work.
And then we got ready to go to dinner.
Aubree walked out of the hallway and into our living room where I sat waiting for her. She was dressed in tight dark leggings and a nice baby blue long-sleeved blouse, with black boots. It kind of made me want to stay home tonight and just kiss her - or more - but I wanted to show her off. Other stuff could wait 'til a bit later. But not too much later.
We walked to the restaurant, it not being too far away, and knowing Aubree liked long walks. She could walk for a whole day straight without stopping if she had the option, I thought.
It was getting dark out, so no one really saw the two of us, but sitting down at the wooden table that sat four people in the middle of the place changed that. Aubree sat opposite of me, and our feet immediately tangled together, needing some form of touch from one another.
I saw a flash out of the corner of my eye from an iPhone in the corner of the room attached to a mother's phone. Her daughter probably liked my band.
I was used to that stuff by now, but Aubree was trying not to laugh at all of the looks we were getting.
A young lad with hair that resembled Zayn's popped over to our table, a fake-eager expression glued to his face. "What can I get for you lovely people tonight?"
