I had to text Aisha the rest as she started to fall asleep on the phone. Since my arrival, things have been okay in a way.
Yes there was the whole Patty situation but that was immature of me to act that way.On the other hand, I've met Christian. He's been such an angel to me, again apart from the Patty thing, he's just so nice. To the point he came to my house just to apologise.
Actually thinking about it now, I'm not entirely sure who gave him my address. But it's whatever. Small town I guess.
Then we have Brick. The one person I didn't want to see or even talk to again yet I have his number and comforted him about Patty. Still feel like utter crap because of that. I kept the fact that I knew who Patty left Brick for, but I basically just came so it's not really my place to say anything, right?
After texting Aisha, I decided to go and call my Dad to check in. He didn't answer the phone so I assumed it was because his work and everything. I tried one more time but the ringing cut short meaning he didn't answer on purpose.
what the hell.
I haven't spoken to him in what feels like forever and he just doesn't wanna talk?
You know what? Positive vibes only.
I send him a text:hey dad, i'm assuming ur busy w ur new job n whatevr🤷♀️ so when ur available pls give me a call back ily 😘
Just as I set my phone down, my Mom knocked on the door, "Can I come in?" She asked from the other side of door.
I hummed in response and she slowly opened the door and walked in. Before she could get a full sentence out I said, "Why won't Dad answer any of my calls?"
Her eyebrows raised slightly and she shrugged, "Not sure hun. Maybe he's busy with something else."
I nodded, "Maybe. But he always answers no matter what, and I think he declined the call because the ringing was cut short. Do you think he's okay?" I asked her as the worst case scenarios popped into my mind.
"He's okay don't worry. He'll call you back soon. Anyways, I just came to ask you what you wanted to tell you that the food was ready."
I nodded my head in reply, not really feeling hungry. An awkward silence made its way into the room.
"Have you spoken to him?" I asked her. She seemed to look a little on edge but composed herself, I guess she didn't like to speak about him after their divorce.
"No. Anyways as I said dinner's ready." She said and before I could ask her anything else she turned on her heel and left the room without another word.
I sighed as I stared at the wall. Something was definitely up.
I made my way downstairs to eat and headed to the dining room. Mom and Jake sat at the table, Mom with a slightly irritated look on her face and Jake with the same old resting b*tch face he seems to have.
I took my seat as we all began eating. Here's the thing though, it was in utter silence.
Like hear-a-pin-drop level silence.
Jake cleared his throat, "So, How's everyone's day been?" Oh no. Small talk.
Mom sighed before putting a smile on her face, "Well you know those super expensive lavender scented oils? I found some online at like half the price, total bargain so I ordered those." She said with a satisfied smile on her face looking at anywhere but me.
Jake raised his brows intrigued as he nodded his head, "What's so good about them anyways?" He asked.
Mom rolled her eyes before answering, "They're for relaxation."
After that the table went silent again. Luckily for me I finished my food by that time and stood up with my plate in hand.
"Are you sure you don't want seconds?" Mom asked me.
I shook my head in response and made my way to the kitchen and placed my plate in the dishwasher as well as my fork.
I washed hands before walking over to the fridge and taking out a bottle of pink lemonade and making my way upstairs again.
Just as I closed the door, my phone began ringing.
Dad?
I ran towards it with smile hoping it was my Dad calling. I flipped the phone around to see the screen.
Brick.
Oh.
Wait? Brick?
"Hello?" I spoke into the phone after pressing the green icon to answer.
"Hi Kharma, I'm sorry if you're busy but I just wanted to tell you that I saw these tickets to a Van Gogh exhibition next week, and if I remember correctly... you loved to paint. Figured we could go together, what do you think?" His voice was like music to my ears, so soft and joyful. I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Brick, I'd love to go! I've never been to a Van Gogh exhibition before. Maybe it'll spark some interest to paint again."
He laughed a little before replying, "That's awesome bab-Kharma. I'll text you the details and buy the tickets now."
There was a slight awkward pause before I decided to speak up again, "Great. Well thanks for the invite Brick. It's pretty late so I'll see you around. Goodnight."
"Of course, Goodnight, sweetheart."
'Sweetheart'. Butterflies.
After Brick hung up, I was about to set my phone aside I decided to call my Dad once again.
Ring...
Ring...
Ring...
Ring—"Hello?"
That's not my Dad's voice. It was a woman.
"Uhm, Hello. This is Kharma, who is this?"
The woman took her time to reply, she seemed a little uncomfortable.
"Yolanda. Peter isn't here right now and I'd appreciate it if you stopped making his phone go all crazy. You agreed to give us space so let us have it. Thank you."
And with that, she hung up. I was left stunned. Jaw hung agape and a confused frown on my face. What just happened?
Yolanda? Agreed to let who have space? Did I ring the right number?
I looked back at my screen and saw the contact name was indeed correct. But I was too tired to be stressing now.
That will be a tomorrow problem, but right now my eye bags are my main problem.
I lazily flopped onto the bed and shut my eyes, a million thoughts raced through my mind but I had to let them go.
It would be in a matter of time where Kharma knew she should have pressed on further about this, besides, it's better to get your karma over and done with sooner rather than later, right?
