The next few days fell into a routine. I would wake up, serve 3 meals a day to Donte and his associates and then clean. I tried avoiding Donte since that night in his office. It wasn't good for my head to be around him, so I didn't think about him, make eye contact, or even talk to him since that night.

Of course, every chance Maddie got she tried to show off the fact that Donte favoured her to the rest of us. I wasn't dumb enough to not see the way his eyes would linger on her for just a moment longer than normal. He seemed to be infatuated with her and that was fine by me, even though the thought of it made my heartache.

I just needed to focus on not getting killed and finding a way out of here. I had mastered this maze-like house and every night before bed I would wander the halls, looking for some way out of this palace-like prison. The only thing that kept me sane was Adrian. He was able to make me laugh even in the darkest of times and he had become my only saving grace here.

After dinner tonight I went back to my room like usual and began getting ready for bed when I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and there stood Adrian, with a Cheshire cat smile on his face.

"You looked a little glum tonight at dinner so I figured I would cheer you up with a surprise," Adrian said, and I smiled. Leave it to Adrian to cheer me up.

"I love surprises but it's getting late. Are we even allowed to be out of our rooms at this time?" I asked with concern laced in my voice. I desperately wanted to get out of this room but the last thing I wanted was for Luca or Donte to get mad.

"We'll be fine, live on the wild side a little bit. Plus, we won't be going that far," Adrian pleaded and that was all I needed to agree to go with him.

He grabbed my hand and started running hand in hand with me towards the elevator. I asked him multiple times to give me a clue to where we're going but he wouldn't budge.

Finally, when we got out of the elevator, he took me passed the back door into the garden. The flowers looked even more beautiful from here than they did on my balcony. There was row after row of flowers, and I could just see the garden becoming my new favourite place in the house.

Adrian sat down on the grass in the middle of a field of flowers. Once I broke out of my awed state I sat down beside Adrian. There was no one in sight, no guards, no Donte, no anyone. It felt like just for tonight that this was our little piece of heaven.

"This is beautiful Adrian. The flowers are stunning," I said, thanking him for bringing me here.

"You captivate me, Liz. Since the first day I met you, I wanted to know everything about you." Adrian said and I began to blush. I had never had a man interested and fascinated by me before. The feeling sent butterflies fluttering in my stomach.

"There's not much to know. I'm here as a maid and that's sort of the end of that. How did you end up here?" I asked with defeat in my tone. I wanted to get out of here and I wondered if Adrian felt the same way?

"I saw something that I shouldn't have seen and ended up here." He stated. When he talked about coming here it looked like he aged about ten years. His mouth frowned and I could see the hurt in his eyes.

"I don't know how much longer I can be here Adrian. It's a beautiful place but it's like a jail with a dictator living here. Telling us what we can and cannot do. I just want to get out of here." I expressed and something in Adrian changed. He tensed up and looked almost like he was in distress.

"You can't talk like that here Liz. It's not possible for you to leave because you were brought here for a reason. If Donte or any of his men ever heard you talking about escaping they would not hesitate to kill you. Promise me that you won't do anything stupid, Liz." Adrian pleaded and I nodded my head.

"I won't do anything stupid Adrian don't worry. Now let's change the topic to something else." I gave him a tight smile but the thought of me escaping didn't leave my head. I looked to the back of the garden and a barbed wire fence was the obstacle between me and freedom. I didn't know if it was electrical but if it wasn't, I would suffer the cuts of the wire to get out of here.

"Yes definitely. What was your life like before you came here? Tell me everything. Small things about you and your family. Who you were before all this?" Adrian asked and grabbed a string of my hair and began running his fingers through it. The act was comfortable and made me feel at ease around him.

"My life was quite boring before all this. I worked as a waitress in a bar in Brooklyn and barely made enough to pay my bills. My parents got into a car accident three years ago when I was fifteen and both died. I have been on my own since." I hated thinking about my parents, every time I did it brought tears to my eyes. They were my best friends and since then, all I have known is being in my solitude.

Adrian told me about his old life. He was in college on a football scholarship and had two younger brothers. He went out one night to a shady bar with some of his friends and saw something he shouldn't have. And that's how he ended up here.

After sharing memories of our old lives, we decided to lighten the mood by watching the stars. We both laid back on the grass on this cool autumn night and stared into the infinite abyss together.
