eight, not home for the holidays

Julian let out a heavy sigh when he stood outside the Matthews residence.

It was Christmas and he didn't want to impose but his mom was in the hospital resting and well his step-father was nowhere to be seen; of course his biological father still hasn't opened his texts.

That's exactly why after wishing his mom a merry Christmas, he went straight to the Matthews, not knowing where else to go since Lucas was in Texas for the holidays.

Julian swung the door open without knocking, he knew they didn't care and he used that to his advantage. "Matthews!"

"Today just keeps getting better." Maya stated just loud enough for her best friend to hear as she smirked.

Josh's jaw hung open and pointed at Julian. "Cory, don't freak out but Julez is in your house!"

Cory stood up and chuckled, walking closer to Julian. "He's my student." He explained to his extended family. "What're you doing here, Parker?"

The dark haired boy awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, is it okay if i spend Christmas with you guys." He let out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry, never mind, I don't mean to be a burden." He turned around to leave through the front door.

Maya jumped on his back, preventing him from moving further. "No! Tell him he can stay Matthews!"

"Maya!" Julian tried to shake off the small girl.

"Of course you can stay Julian." Cory nodded with a warm smile.

Topanga called out from the kitchen. "The more the merrier!"

"Okay, get off now, Hart." Julian instructed causing the blonde to sigh and jump off. "Thank you." He thanked Cory before he went and sat next to the girls.

"Woah, i'm spending Christmas with Julez." Josh smirked in excitement.

Just then, a man around Cory's age walked through the door, creeping in, telling the teenagers not to alert Cory of his presence.

The mystery man sat on the couch next to Auggie. "Gee Cor, thought you would be more excited to see me."

The curly haired man gasped. "Yay!" The two practically jumped onto each other. "I told you he was real!" He pointed at Maya.

Just then Auggie made it out from in between them. "I'm okay, i'm alive!" He panted before he ran over to his mom.

Julian raised an eyebrow watching the scene. "Who's the dude?" He questioned the two girls.

"That's my uncle Shawn. Him and my dad have been friends since like forever." Riley explained to him briefly.

He hummed, understandingly. "So, they're the Maya and Riley of the 50s?"

"Wait so that's us huh?" Maya watched the scene with a fixed gaze.

"So i've been told." The Matthews girl shrugged.

Josh stands up and smiles at Shawn. "Am I cooler than you yet?"

"And that dude?" Julian questioned referring to Josh.
