Bye Captain (Steve X Reader) SoulMate AU

You look down at your wrist, keeping your eyes trained on the kanji. It was a language you didn't speak, nor read, so it was pretty useless to even try and decipher it. Of course, then again you didn't really want to. You didn't feel the need to meet your soulmate, although it was fun to think about at times. But you, you just don't think you're good enough.

It's been five years since the snap. Being an avenger, you felt as if it were all your fault. The entire world had rested on your shoulders and you had let them down. You look up at the door and sigh. Giving it a small knock before pushing it open.

"Hello? Anyone here?" You said opening the door to reveal a room full of fold-up chairs in a circle. At least six people sat in them. "Is this the support group?" You asked walking over to the group of people.

"Y/N, you made it," Steve said standing up. He was a good friend of yours, one that had stuck with you through this time.

"Yeah I did," You smiled, trying to hide your pain.

"Sit down," He said gently, you sat next to a woman with dark brown hair and glasses. People talk, but you can't seem to focus on what they say. All of them talking about what it was like when the snap happened. And at this moment you began to regret your decision on coming here.

"Y/N? Y/N?" You snapped out of it when you heard Steve's voice. "Do you want to share?" You look around the room, your head becoming light. And your vision becoming blurred, your body felt hot, and you felt dizzy. You took a deep breath and looked at the people, realizing they were looking at you with expectant eyes.

"I guess when it happened, I felt pure defeat." You said holding back tears, "Realizing I had let down my friends, the world, the freaking universe. I was an Avenger it was my job, and I failed." You said letting a few of the tears slip out. "And not only that, but I feel that I don't even feel good enough to deserve them," You said wiping away the tears. You looked back down at your wrist. You didn't deserve them, you never will.

"Do you know what your wrist says?" A woman asks from across the room.

"I don't, I don't deserve to know the name of my soulmate," You said

"I think you should find out, and let them be the one to decide if you deserve them or not." The woman says. You look to the ground. "I know someone who can decipher it, I think you should tell them too."

"I- Uhm" You begin

"Nonsense take the number," She rummaged through her purse, you looked over at Steve. he gave you a shrug. You then looked to see the woman in front of you, she held out a card.

"Thank you..." You take it and sit quietly listening to the rest of the people talk.

*After the meeting*

"Hey Y/N," Steve walked over to you as you began to walk home.

"Hey Steve," You smiled over at him, you looked down at the card.

"Are you finally going to figure out who it is,"

"I'll only do it if you do," You say laughing, you see him glare at you jokingly.

"I told you I've already met my Soulmate,"

"Yeah Yeah, Peggy," You looked over at him, "I've read about her, Steve, I know that she was an amazing woman, but you don't know if she's your soulmate. You could have a new one since, well..." You trail off

"I know Y/N, you could be right, but-"

"Just check, please..." You begged

"Fine," He said

"Great cause we're here," You said stopping in front of an old building. You opened the door and walked inside, taking yourself away from the darkness of the night. He chuckled and went inside, following you.

"Ah Hello!" A woman said, walking over to you.

"We're here-"

"I know what you're here for darling you want to know who your soulmate it is!" She said "Please come sit," She motioned the two of you over.

You both sat down in front of her, and you both held out your wrists. I guess I should explain, ever since you're born you have the name of your soulmate on your arm, of course, it's not that easy. It's written in kanji, which means you need someone to decipher it unless you can do it yourself of course. Anyway, its there for your entire life, but if something goes wrong then, you get a new one. Well, it's extremely rare to get a new one, it's a very high risk that if you miss your chance. Then that's it, you're done.

The woman's eyes flicker between you, "Yours," She looks to Steve, "You, my friend have had a soulmate haven't you," He nods "Well you have a new one, you missed your chance be grateful; you have a second one," She smiles

"Who...Who is it?" He asks, a small amount of hope in his eyes.

"Her name is Y/N L/N," She says, he immediately looks over to you. Without even realizing she says "And yours is Steve Rogers," She said smiling although you were in utter shock.

You say thank you to the woman and walk outside, in complete silence as you closed the door.

"Y/N, you know that you're amazing but-" You cut him off.

"That you still love Peggy, I know, Steve, I know..."

"I'm sorry," He says

"It's okay," Your voice cracks the tiniest bit as you choke back tears, but fail when you feel them streaming down your face. "You have your soulmate, Ill just- I don't deserve you anyway Steve, but she does.

*Basically After Endgame*

You smile next to Bucky, knowing full damn well what that man was going to do Next. You look over at Bucky, "You think he's going?" Bucky asked.

"We both know very well that he's going to Peggy," You say laughing, you look over to Steve. You quickly walk over to him and wrap him in a hug.

"Go be with the woman you love Steve," You whispered in his ear, he gives you a tight squeeze.

"Y/N," You pull away from him and look him in the eyes.

"You deserve what you want Steve, you've given the world everything. Its time that you got something back."

He opens his mouth, in an attempt to speak but you quiet him. "I've loved you since the moment I met you, and to find out that you are my soulmate is a dream come true. But I know that you don't love me and that you love an amazing woman. You need to go be with her, you deserve that much." You hug him one more time, beginning to walk away. For a moment you stop yourself and look down at your wrist. You turn around and face him, "Bye Captain," You salute him and walk away.
