Chapter 4

It's been three weeks later.
Maya still hadn't woken up and now the changes of her waking up just lowers by the day.
Riley has been with her a lot and even Katy had given up a bit.
Yesterday was Riley's birthday and now everyone is really getting worked up.
The date was 9 December Saturday 2017.
Riley was sitting at Maya's ward lucky that it is Saturday.
School wasn't closed yet so she did have homework to do.
She was doing it at Maya's when she looked at her best friend.

She moved.
Maya's hand moved.
Riley stood up and went outside.

"Miss Hunter moved. Call the doctor," Riley said.

She quickly went back in and stood beside Maya.
She took her hand and her eyes opened.

"Hey Maya. You're awake," Riley said and Maya looked around.
"You were in a car accident. Don't talk. The doctor will remove the pipes when you are able to breathe on your own. Understand."
"She up?" the doctor asked.
"Looks like it," Riley said as she stood back.
"Good morning Miss Hunter. We are glad you're awake. I'll remove the pipes in a minute. For now we just need to let you come to realization. Why don't you go tell the family?" the doctor asked and Riley was off.

The doctor removed the pipes and luckily Maya was able to breathe in her own.

"Good. That's really good," he said then Katy came in.
"Thank goodness," Katy said.
"Mom," Maya said.
"Yeah it's me. It's okay Baby Girl. Everything is okay," Katy said.
"I just have a few questions. What is the date?" he asked.
"August, 27 2014."
"What?" Katy said.
"That was the day we met Lucas. Maya do you remember Shawn?"
"Who?" Maya asked.
"I think I know what is going on. What is your name?"
"Maya Hart."
"What is the last thing you remember?" he asked.
"Me and Riley were at the subway. We saw a boy our age. Um..."
"That's enough for now. Miss Hunter," he said and spoke to Katy aside.

"Who is Shawn?" Maya asked.
"He's your step-father Maya. He adopted you as well. You call him Dad. Three years of your life just gone. What about Josh?"
"Who?" Maya asked.
"I'll explain later."

"What is going on with my daughter?" Katy asked.
"Amnesia which is normal," he said.
"Normal? How am I suppose to tell my husband his adoptive daughter can't even remember meeting him? How long does it..."
"We won't be able to tell," he said.
"Okay I'll handle it from here."

"Mom what is going on?" Maya asked.
"You have something called amnesia Baby Girl. Your memory is temporary lost. But it will regain again. We will figure it out."
