Outside the tent Kate could hear what sounded like singing, only it was in some weird language she had never heard before. Even in a different language with no way to know the words, she still found it very relaxing and comforting.
Kate sat in the tent holding the egg in one arm, while her mother sat in a chair next to her holding her other hand. As she looked around she could tell this place was fit for a king. The most lavash decorations and furniture was scattered threw out the tent. On one of the tables was more food then Kate had ever seen.
"So what is the name of the song they are singing out there, and what language is that?" Katelyn asked the silver hair elf. "That is no song young one, they are singing wards of protection for you and the egg. The language you hear is the ancient language. It is the language of my people."
"Oh well it is a very beautiful language. What is a ward and how will it protect me? Also what do I call you, you never told me you name." Kate asked.
"My name is Legontis and I will be your mentor and guide if you are a chosen one. The wards are magical spells we use to protect you. We elves sing them to make the magic with in the wards more powerful."
"Your telling me magic really does exist I alway thought it was just a story. Can you also make magic or is it just a few of you?"
"Yes young one I can do magic, all elves are magical beings. Why so many question?"
"Sorry Legontis I'm just really scared and nerves and all this talking is just really helping to calm me. If I'm bugging you I'll be quite."
"It is fine that is what I'm here for, to answer your questions and teach you when the time comes. For right now you should really concentrate on making a bound with your dragon and egg. The stronger the bound the better chance the dragon has of hatching for you. Plus there will be plenty of time for questions once your dragon hatches. Why don't you go over to the corner and lie on them pillows over there, and work on your bond."
"If that is what think is best that is what I'll do. But what about my mom Legontis what is she suppose to do. I really hate to leave her by herself."
For the first time since entering the tent her mom spoke. "Now Katelyn you go do what that nice elf told you to do. Don't you worry about me none, I'll just going to go and have me some of that food over there and take me a little nap."
"Very well mom." With that Kate got up and walked over to the corner and curled up on the big purple and gold pillows with her egg.
As the hours passed Katelyn laid there thinking of her egg and it's beauty. She wondered what kind of dragon was inside, how big it would grow, would it like her when it grew to know her better, or would it regret it's choice and leave her. As she laid there thinking of these things she drifted off to sleep.
Katelyn had no idea when she fell asleep or how long she slept. All she knew was a chirping and the egg moving around a lot in her arms woke her up. She opened her eyes to see Legontis and two other elves who she did not know standing over her. When her eyes focused more she made out the face of her mother looking over Legontis shoulder.
Once she was good and awake Legontis spoke to her. "Young one it looks like the dragon has chosen you and will be hatching soon. Leave the egg on the pillows and step back and watch with us."
Kate stood there amongst the other watching to see what would happen. She couldn't believe this was all happening to her. This morning she was just some sixteen year old girl living in an old run down shack but by tonight she would be a dragon rider. Even though she knew nothing about dragon riders, she did know they were some of the most important and powerful people in all the land.
