It was early morning right before the sun was about to peak over the horizon. Kate got her self out of bed and started to change into her clothes very quietly. She pulled on her deerskin pants and got the white long sleeve cotton shirt out her dresser, and pulled it over head letting her long jet black hair fall over the back of her shirt.

Being as quiet as a mouse she climb down the latter from her loft in the one bedroom home she shared with her mother. Sneaking over to the door Kate grab her deerskin jacket along with her brown moccasins, stuffing them under her arm she grab her bow and quiver of arrows off there hook. Kate gentle as could be started to open the door to sneak out.

"Katelyn!! Where do you think your sneaking off to? You know I told you I want you here today."

Kate turned around with a look of disappointment on he face, "mother you know I want no part of the actives today. This is the perfect time for me to be hunting everybody will be in town for the festivities, i'll have nobody to compete with for game. I could bring home a lot of money today if you just let me go."

"No Katelyn I want you here, you need to take part in all the festivities. Your father would have wanted you to be a part of this, plus the King is going to be here along with elves. We have never seen a king or elves before it will be a great joy to see them."

"Mom it's Kate you know I hate it when you or anybody else calls me Katelyn. Plus this isn't even our village and they aren't even our people. Also I could care less about some king or elves or even that stupid egg they are caring with them. The dumb thing probably won't ever hatch for anyone."

"That enough Kate this is a great thing to be a part of. And I know you don't like it here or the people in this village, but this is our home now and we need to make the best of it."

"This isn't my village or home, mom you know that. Our home is with the wandering tribes, you should of never let them kick us out after dad died in the war."

"You know I had no choice Kate. It was hard enough for your dad to get them to let me in sixteen years ago when you were born. Once your father died you know there was nothing left to keep them from kicking a white women out of the tribe, even if I did have a dark skinned child. You know you never had to leave they would of let you stay, for that matter you could go back anytime you want."

"You know I could never leave you mom. Even though you don't like to admit it you know you need my hunting skills to help bring in money to pay the bills. So now will you let's please go hunting so I can help pay the bills."

"I tell you what Kate if you are so bound and determined to miss the festivities and go hunting. I'll make you a deal if you can get in line to touch the egg today and par take in the festival the rest of the day, i'll let you miss the next two days of it to go hunting. How's that sound honey do we have a deal."

"Yes mom we have a deal. I don't know why you want me to touch this blasted egg so bad it's never going to hatch for me, or any of these other idiots in this village. "

"Because its what your father would of wanted. He would be so proud to know his daughter got to touch a dragon egg. Now run along dear and get cleaned up you'll need to hurry if you want to be towards the front of the line."

"Ok mother."

After washing her face, and brushing her hair which left a nice shine on it. Kate sat in a chair pulling on her best and only pair of brown boots, her mom walk up behind her and put her hand on her shoulder.

"Now Kate I want you to promise me there will be no fighting today and that you will be on your best behavior."

"Yes mother I promise, and I wish you wouldn't make such a big deal about me fighting it only happened a few times."
