Flashback: A Glimpse of History

November 2009

Kaydence's POV

"Okay babe," Katie said with a huge smirk on her face trailing behind me as we headed into one of our favorite bars near school. "Mum has been the word since you came back from fall break. Know your ass got lucky so you gonna spill?" I gave her an absent shrug giving the bouncer a flirty wink as I passed over the tickets in my hand. Katie didn't even question how I'd gotten tickets to one of the shows that had been sold out for weeks. Something she was used to because of Jason plus Caroline was known to hook me up if Luke was in north Georgia. She paused putting her hands on her hips grabbing my arm to stop me. I looked back over my shoulder with a sigh. "Really K? Not a detail and don't think I know you haven't been slipping off. Going to the library my ass. Since when in the hell have you ever studied this much? And not an open mic night either because you would have drug me with you."

"Nope," I said with an evil grin. Katie had been trying this for the last month. I wasn't spilling. In fact, I was playing it all close to the vest after the grilling Jason had given me. "I plead the fifth on if I hooked up with anyone in Nashville sweets. Look, let's just have fun tonight and listen to some music. Maybe do some dancing and flirting. It's a week before Thanksgiving and everyone is gonna head home okay."

"Fine," Katie huffed putting her hands on her slim hips making her shirt ride up showing off tanned stomach over her denim mini skirt. Then pure devilment twinkled in her eyes. Swore she smacked her lips as she fanned herself making me laugh before tugging me closer to her. "Lawd help me. I don't know who that guy watching us is but let me tell you Kay, there is pure sin in his eyes. Shit! He's coming this way. Hottie in a backwards black hat coming in hot. Can I call dibs...."

She trailed off when I turned around with a grin getting one in return and totally giving in to the shots we had pregamed with before leaving our apartment. I ignored the flutters from the sexy grin spread across lips as arms opened up. Yep, I was totally that girl that jumped into them wholeheartedly wrapping my legs around his waist hearing Katie gasp.

"About time your sexy ass showed up," Brantley chuckled grinning down at me. I smirked at him wrapping my arms around his neck pulling his lips down to mine in a tantalizing kiss. A whistle sounded beside us. He turned his head cracking an eye open raising his middle finger up at the guy beside us never breaking the kiss.

"Man," the tall blonde headed guy said rolling his eyes adjusting his backwards hat. "Did we come here to play tonight or for you to grope on Kay?"

"Fuck you Ben," I chuckled pulling my head back as Brantley lowered me to my feet keeping me tucked into his side. I looked over at a speechless Katie. I waved a hand in front of her face making sure she wasn't broken. "Earth to Katie. Ohhhh Katie...."

"Let me," Ben said poking out his chest painting on a grin stepping closer to my shell shocked best friend. He reached for her hand lifting it to his lips making Brantley let out a snort before hiding his face in the curve of my neck to smother his laugh. "How you doin beautiful?"

"Oh God," I groaned shaking my head. "Did he just Joey Tribbiani her?"

"Doing just fine now handsome," Katie replied snapping out of it fluttering her eyes at Ben. I groaned rolling my eyes. I knew right away my best friend was smitten with the flirty drummer. But that didn't keep her from turning narrowed eyes at me. She stepped closer poking a finger into my shoulder. "Just what have you been keeping from me Kaydence Leigh!"

"Ummm...." I said biting my lip. I wasn't sure how to answer that. Yea, I'd spent a good portion of my fall break tangled up with him any chance I got when I could take advantage of Jason being distracted. I may have snuck off when I said I was studying if he was playing close to school. Not to mention his hometown was close to Athens. We were just having fun so I hadn't really felt the need to mention him to Katie. A chuckle rumbled against my arm while a big hand squeezed my hip. Of course he would think it was hilarious because there had been a time or two I'd sent Katie to voicemail without even prying my lips from his. "Well...."

"I'm gonna get to work and let you handle that darlin," Brantley chuckled kissing my cheek. He reached over throwing an arm around Ben's neck ceasing his drooling over Katie dragging him backwards. "Come on Romeo, you've got some drums to play."

I watched them disappear through the crowd heading to the stage. Katie grabbed my arm shaking me. I gave her a sheepish smile.

"That's who we are coming to see tonight," she squealed. "You know I tried to get tickets to see him last semester and it was sold out. How the hell do you know BG? And from the looks of it, girl you know him quite well!"

"I met him because of Jason. Jase is recording a couple of songs Brantley wrote," I said with a shrug of my shoulders smiling as Ben kicked off their first song. Felt my heart skip a little listening to Brantley sing. I quickly tamped it down reminding myself I wasn't letting that particular part of me get involved. I hadn't been playing when I told Jason I would finish out this school year at the most. My heart wasn't in it. If Mom just insisted I get a degree, then I would do it from Belmont. My focus was determinedly set on Nashville. I already knew the coming battle during the holidays with Jason over this. He kept insisting I was too young. But I was a hell of a lot smarter than he gave me credit for. Like I hadn't watched learning anytime I was around. I knew I could do this. Just had to have someone in this family have faith in me. "It's just some fun Katie. That is all. Yea, I have been sneaking off to hang out with him some when he is around and not on the road. Or in Nashville. But he's busy and I'm focusing on school. Gonna talk to Mom more about me moving after this semester is over with. Neither you nor I are like the rest of our friends from school and chasing that Mrs. Degree."

"Well," Katie laughed tugging me towards the bar. "He's not your normal so yea I was surprised. Definitely your first musician. Must say he's got that bad boy with a heart of gold vibe. Better be careful Kay, could lose your heart with that one."

"Rest easy sweets," I chuckled rolling my eyes and holding my hand up for a couple of shots swaying my hips to the beat of "My Kinda Party". I listened to the screams from the row of sorority girls right up against the stage and smiled to myself. Eh, eat your hearts out ladies and try all you want tonight. I knew for a fact I had that man all wrapped up once his show was over with so enjoy while you can. "It's just sex. Damn good sex for sure but that is all it is. Both of us have our eyes on way bigger things than settling down."

"Why do I feel the need to tell you that you are gonna eat those words one day?" Katie asked saluting me with a shot. I glared at her throwing mine back and pulling her towards the stage. "Just remember I said that Kay. Just remember that."
