you, me, and the diamond stars

42 12 10

they said it's just reckless youth's fire

that we were still naïve and only dreaming

they told us love's a well-dressed liar

she taunts you, leads you in, then leaves you screaming

but the day i saw you across the dimly-lit chicago bar

your eyes searched, read constellations in mine

with a "thanks" drawled in your leather-chocolate voice you set down your guitar

hopped off the stage to me, caressed my cheek with a warm hand and leaned in as if pleading "give me a sign"

i couldn't resist you, baby, your addiction and its sweet appeal

kisses laced with nicotine and tempting smiles

and i'll never forget the way you made me feel

that day you swore "we'll run away one day, miles and miles"

you said you were a musician but you played my heartstrings

around you there's static hot in the air

you liberated me, gave me my wings

and the world couldn't compare

there are so many songs and tunes

but it was my name you chose to croon

when i asked you why, you simply said

"it's you i wanna serenade"

i promise, one day there'll be no one to tell us no

we'll be free one day - that day we'll go

paint stars out of bright city lights

it'll be just you, me, and the diamond stars tonight

A/N: hey y'all haha i'm really really happy with the way this one turned out because i haven't been seriously writing for quite a while now and i'm honestly so pleased with my first attempt after a little hiatus!! i don't usually write about love in such a grounded way as well - usually whenever i write about love it's very idea-based and dark so,,,yeaH basically this poem is a first for me in many ways so do tell me what you think!! thank you love y'all ❤️
