My mind is pulled away from my book when my phone buzzes with a text from our group chat.

Caleb😜:Oh no.
Talia👑: Hey Caleb?
Caleb😜:Yea?
Talia👑:Shut up.
Em❤️:What's your idea?
Talia👑:I'll tell you but first are you there Ace and Navaeh?
Ace🍕:Yep
Navaeh😊: I'm here
Talia👑:Great. Let's all go swimming at charlie's lake today.
Ace🍕:Why?
Talia👑: What do you mean why? Everyone has been all sad and depressing lately so we need to get out and do something fun together. Idiot.
I can practically feel her roll her eyes in this text.
Em❤️:She's right. I'm in.
Navaeh😊: Me too
Ace🍕:Okay I guess.
Caleb😜:Oh sorry I was making food but hell yea i'm in.
Talia👑:Okay lets all meet somewhere in an hour.
Em❤️: Lets meet at my house it's closest to the lake.
Everyone sends out an okay to Emerson's last text.
I get up and gather a bag full of things I need and extra for Caleb who will forget.
Changing into my swimsuit I look in my mirror with a sigh. I've never been..confident when it came to showing skin and being in front of all of my friends in a bikini isn't exactly a fun thought.
Especially Emerson.
Over the past few months I can say i've developed a crush on Emerson.
But there's no way i'm going to say that to her face.
I'll just save myself the embarrassment of rejection and keep my mouth shut.
Grabbing my things I say bye to my mom before walking out of the door and heading straight to Emerson's house.
When I arrive Caleb and Talia are already here. I knock on the door and come face to face with Emerson's dad.
"Hey Navaeh" he pauses and look behind him into the living room "Good luck with them honey." He purses his lips and walks off to the kitchen before I can get a word in.
When I step inside I see what he's talking about. Emerson and Caleb are hitting each other with pillows and Talia is doing a mix of cheering Em on and facepalming.
Em throws her pulling and pulls her fist up playfully. She wouldn't really hit him.
Caleb's eyes go wide and he throws his hands up in surrender. "Okay okay!"
She smiles contently and helps him up. She turns to me and gives a small smile "Hey sweetheart."
The others greet me and we all end up sitting on the couch jumping into a conversation.
I notice Em blanking out into her own thoughts making me sigh. It's been two weeks since the funeral and four weeks since the accident. She randomly blanks out pretty often.
She still hurts I know that but I also know she's trying. I guess after losing your rock trying is the best thing you can do.
Ace gets here and we all load up in his car before finding out seat arrangements.
