Take a sip of my secret potion
I'll make you fall in love
For a spell that can't be broken
One drop should be enough

~ Little Mix

I flatten down my summer dress against my exposed thighs as a gust of wind threatens to flash what's underneath to the whole of Brooklyn in a Marilyn Monroe-esque fashion. I trot along the street to the Lightwoods residence in my chunky white heels.

I was disastrously late, so much so that even Isabelle is going to consider it unfashionable and she is the master of being fashionably late. Thank god they were forgiving people.

It was Max's birthday party and although I felt terrible about turning up late it did mean I could stick to a simple white play suit with yellow sunflowers on it rather than some elaborate get up which was the usual dress code for a Lightwood party.

I'm still probably a little overdressed considering I'm on my way to a fifteen year olds birthday party but Simon was going to be there and I'll be damned if I look anything less than a million bucks in front of him if I had good reason, best friends or not.

When I knock on the large wooden front door I'm grateful I'm not sweating when Isabelle swings it open looking stunning as ever in a tight red dress with matching lips pulled into a smile.

"Finally, I was about to send out a search party." She opens the door wide for me and I slip into the large, banner decorated hallway.

"Sorry Iz, wardrobe malfunction right before I left the house." I lie because really I just spent far too long picking out an appropriate outfit leaving me very little time to do my hair and make-up.
"Been there." She sighs "don't worry about it, moms still too busy fussing that Max's friends are drinking and destroying her yard to notice anything else." I laugh, reaching into the small yellow bag on my shoulder for Max's present.

"They're drinking?" I question, still finding it amusing and Isabelle shakes her head as she leads me into the kitchen "No, but you know how she worries." She explains and of course I know, Maryse had always been a worrier, especially when it came to her youngest son.

I hear the older woman barking orders at someone in the backyard from the open patio door and shake my head, smiling.

"Rosé okay?" Isabelle waves a half full bottle of wine at me "Perfect." I nod and watch her pour out two glasses.
