"...Everything has a price..."
*bzzzzzzzzzzz*
*bzzzzzzzzzzz*"Tanginang alarm..." I whispered to myself as I wake. Another day will pass, knowing my brain will get drained from the lectures of my professors. I turned off my alarm and dragged myself out of bed...
Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Skylar Alvidrez, 21 years of age, graduating from AB Communication at Ateneo De Manila University. I am the only child of a single mom who happens to be Theresa 'Ms. Resa' Alvidrez, the CEO, and founder of LARTZ Cosmetics Inc., the largest cosmetic company in Asia. Hey, I am not bragging—just stating the facts.
So, I went to my bathroom to prepare myself for school, when I heard a knock on my door...
"Sweetie? Are you awake?" I heard my mom's muffled voice.
"Yes, Mom! Be down in a minute!" I shouted from my shower room.
You know the drill; I'll wake up, prepare myself, go downstairs for breakfast, drive to school, and the rest is history.
I'll share a little more about myself. Well, my mom got divorced from my dad long ago and I didn't get to meet him ever since the day that I was born. Growing up, I had no father figure but my mom showed me that I can be strong and independent without a man in my life. There were some days that I wished I knew my dad so that at least, I can get some tips on how to be romantic towards girls.
Oops, did I forget to mention I'm a lesbian? Sorry about that.
Yes, I am a lesbian, but not like the stereotype that always pops up on your mind. By heart, I know I am into women, but I really don't want to change my physical attributes into a guy. You know, so that I could still wear both men and women clothing.
I realized I am a lesbian when some years ago, I stuttered in front of my female classmate when she asked me if she had a 'leak' on her skirt. I can't help but notice her bum more than the stain. Weird and cringeworthy, I know.
So, going back, I lived without a father. And I don't see much of a problem with it. It was my mom who taught me so many things. She showed me that women don't need men to become complete and that we can be complete by ourselves in all ways possible.
And now, I got dressed and went down for breakfast. Mom was cooking pancakes and I can't help but drool...
"That's a good one, Mom. Good morning!" I said and approached her in the kitchen.
"Good morning, sweetie. Go prepare the plates." She said and kissed my cheek.
One thing that I love about my mom is that even if she is a very busy woman, she never fails to take care of me. Most working moms, typically, would be waking up and go to work while their kids take care of themselves. My mom? She will cook for me every morning and even prepare my stuff if she is in the mood to do so. She makes sure that she gives time for both of us.
Right now, we are eating and talking about her activities for the company. I shared my schedules for today as well, so that she knows...
"Wash your plate. I'll go ahead." Mom kissed my cheeks and went upstairs.
My phone buzzed and I automatically smiled...
My Love ❤️
Good morning, love! Rise and shine. I can't wait to see you at school. 😘My girlfriend, Juno, texted me.
How will I introduce her? Well, her full name is Juno Santillan, my classmate in ADMU, also taking up AB Communications. In all sincerity, she is the love of my life. Sounds corny, but it's true. She is my happy pill for the past three years now, and I am hoping we could last longer than that.
