The plane ride to what I was soon going to have to call home was a silent awkward one. I think my aunt Jenny wanted to try and ask me questions and wanted to try and get to know me I could tell because every once in a while she would turn and look at me for a good moment and try to make the words come out of her mouth. But her lack of being in my life all these years and lack of information left nothing but silence the whole plane ride.

My uncle Rob too sat awkwardly, sipping his coffee and typing something on his laptop when the pilot came on the loud speakers and said in a southern accent

"Scuse me for this here interruption we'll soon be expecting some turbulence and landing, please fasten your seatbelts thank you for flyin with North Carolina Air lines"

When we arrived at the airport we were greeted by 2 girls holding up a sign reading WELCOME HOME SHELBY with heart emojis. They were my younger cousins, twins Amy and chuck. I guess my aunt was expecting chuck to be a boy.

I was so used to rides in taxis, fancy cars and limos so when I saw a truck, a Ford F-150 to be specific and was told that would be my ride home the only thing I could think to say is

"What In the absolute fuck is this?"

My new family just said get in Shelby! Because they knew this was something new, almost foreign to me and I needed time to adjust.
