I glanced up behind me through watery eyes at a familiar looking boy.
Alex?
" It's me, Alec, I can come back later if-"
" No it's fine." I said, wiping away tears and pocketing my now broke phone. " Do you need something?"
" No-I-I was walking by and I heard banging so I- I'm sorry I didn't-" he mumbled, pushing his circular glasses further up his nose.
" Alec," I said, putting a hand on his shoulder, offering a small smile, "it's fine." I said, trying to push every negative thought from my brain.
" Do you wanna-"
" No, I'm fine." I said, trying to ignore the tears that wanted to resurface.
It pisses me off that I let that stupid Vulcan get to me like that. I ran my hands over my uniform in an attempt to smooth it. I tried to ignore the bulges from my hips and stomach.
" O-okay I just wanted to ask you-" Alex stammered, pushing his glasses up further on his nose. He was nervous, the books in his hands became suddenly very interesting.
It was adorable, to say the least. He was like a puppy trying fumble his way through the world with no real experience.
" Why did you help me in the quad that day?" He asked.
My smile faltered slightly as I remembered the nasty cadets who practically destroyed several mathematical books for no reason.
" Because- you needed help, a friend." I said, patting him on the shoulder. Alec blushed a deep crimson as I made contact with him. " I wanted to be your friend. Do you want to be mine?"
" Y-yes I would like that very much." He replied, becoming suddenly interested in the floor.
" Great, then I'll see you around?" I said, putting my weight one hip.
" Oh sure-"
" Alrighty then, bye hun, I'll catch you later." I said, ruffling his mousey brown hair. He blushed even more furiously and barely made out a "goodbye". I smirked, amused by his awkwardness. I silently swore to protect Alec as much as I could and whenever I could.
A heavy sigh escaped my throat as my feet heavily made their way out of the math building and toward the dissection lab. I just needed to cut up a corpse and forget my issues. Lunch could wait.

" God damn, Sparkle! Some damn warning you're going to be in here!" Bones yelled as he entered his classroom. I glanced over my shoulder at him and grimaced as he turned on the lights.
" Oh, hey, I'm in here." I dead panned, focusing on retrieving the hypothalamus from the head of an Andorian man.
" You wanna tell me why you're dissecting the brain of a cadaver meant for first years? Because now I'm going to have to cover the head so that no one vomits. " he replied, jumping up to sit on his desk.
I sighed and removed the scalpel from the brain and disposed of my gloves. " I'm just tired of all the bullshit, I needed a break." I said, sitting on the desk next to him. " I find it oddly relaxing to dismember something while I'm angry."
Bones made a slow movement to scoot away from me. I chuckled at him and patted his arm, " You're safe from me. For now."
" What's eating you, Evelyn?" He asked fiddling with the paperweight on his desk.
" You know me well enough now, Bones, you a sho-"
" Don't deflect with humor. You always do that." Bones interrupted. I hated to admit that he was right. But who didn't avoid actual issues? We are all just tip-toeing around each other, too afraid of the burn that might occur if the bomb goes off.
