Universe's Red String of Regret

Now wherever I go
there's a piece of you
in every person I know
and the things they do.

In a bright toothy smile
or an eyes' brilliant sparks,
these are all worth my while
as they were once your marks.

Like a heavy grey Moon
on a lone starry sky,
you disappeared too soon
'cause the time flew by.

And as Sahara's water
dried up, you went away.
The Sun was way hotter
than you needed to stay.

The wind whispers every day
about my shared future lost,
and the lake's water will say
it is better left in the frost.

I know our time's long overdue,
but I still can't stop hoping
to see you in the early day's dew;
there's only dry grass every morning.
