Chapter 15
Diana's blood dripped to the cold floor beneath them. Clark charged at Bruce, his mind filled with hatred and anger. Clark raised his arm up ready to destroy the man who stood holding a lifeless Diana in his arms, yes his Diana who's life hanged in a balance. The thought of destroying Bruce right where he stood without hurting Diana flashes in his mind. His clenched fist drew closer and closer to Batman's face at a speed unimaginable to any human yet he stopped, his fist drifting in mid air only a fibre away from him.
"Thank you" Bruce said in an almost whisper as he began to run to the infirmary. A silent stalemate for the sake of Diana had been reached ...for now. Clark had already pulled his hand away "I didn't do it for you" he exclaimed as Bruce disappeared. He pushed his head against the highly armoured glass window which displayed the most beautiful view of earth. Yet all superman really wanted to do was to destroy it and the criminals who lead the killings, the rapes .... the humans. His fist clenched only for a second again. He slipped onto the floor, his head laid against the glass as he looked sickeningly. At the ceiling. "Everything I do.. I do for her....".Bruce's footsteps became louder as he ran faster. Bruce headed for the infirmary, his breath panting still grasping hold of the lifeless Diana until something made him stop in the cold dark hallway. He began staring down at Diana's face, her eyes slowly opened for just a second as she stared into Bruce's darkened blue eyes.
"please Bruce just take me back to my room it was just a dizzy turn I'm fine now". Bruce struggled to say no and headed back to her room as she quickly regained consciousness. Her arms draped over Bruce as he kicked her bedroom door down abruptly, gently placing her on her bed as she rolled herself up within the covers. Bruce couldn't help but stare only for a moment before switching the light off as he approached the door. Before he took a final look at Diana for reassurance he heard a small whisper from behind him. " Bruce!! " Diana quietly said as she stared from her large queen sized bed. "Yes?" Bruce replied as he quickly turned to her. "Would you stay with me please ?"
Bruce only gave Diana a small nod.Slowly Bruce walked up to Diana's bed as she stared at him like an angel. He sat on the side of her pillow sliding closer and closer next to her, his arms slid hesitantly round her, placing her head and luscious black hair on his chest. Diana always felt safe when she was with Bruce no matter what his mood yet somehow she felt he relied more on her than her of him. His warm breath graced the back of her neck as she pulled the semi crossed blanket around her legs. "thank you" Diana whispered hesitant at the response. "what for?" He asked clutching tighter to her body. For everything you have done whether I knew it or not". Bruce smirked a little looking into Diana's eyes. " I think you and Alfred have become a little too concerned about me. Diana laughed a little although she still ached in pain. " You wish I were that interested in you ". Both only smiled trying to forget the war they were fighting and the life's lost. Bruce held Diana tightly as she drifted to sleep. He left silently taking one last glance before leaving her alone, she looked so peaceful as her raven hair draped over her body so naturally. He quietly closed her doors and and returned to the board room were Clark and Oliver stood discussing the security plans of watchtower. Bruce smirked a as he heard their childish interpretations of how to heighten security when he knew the watchtower inside out. Walking slowly towards them Bruce began clearing his throat immediately drawing both there attention to him. Oliver who glanced intriguingly at both Clark and Bruce's stern faces began retreating and quickly exited the room and instead chose to return to his and Dainas old room. The memories. He counted down the door numbers as he got closer and closer. 22,23,24,25....26. He braced himself as he harshly pushed the door open. The darkness blinded him as he wandered round the empty room leaving only a glimmer of light coming from the hall to enter this room. The room seemed eerie. Oliver dragged his fingers across the shells which had already began collecting dust which fell spontaneously, especially on the photos of him and Dinah. "Happy times" he thought solemnly to himself. He picked up the photo and retreated to the cold, dusty bed placing his head on her pillow which still smelt like her sweet lily scent. CRUNCH!!! "What the... ?"
Just underneath the soft feathered pillow, a blue plastic bag lay hidden between them.Oliver pulled the bag from under the pillow and began to rip it open. "you in here Oliver ?" Diana stood in the doorway with her arms folded. Oliver quickly slid the bag back under the pillow and stood up. " Sorry Diana...um you caught me off guard there.. I well just thought it was time ....just ..." Diana smiled " it's ok I know I was actually just going to head to the conference room if you wanna chat and get something to eat ?" Oliver looked behind him taking a quick glance at the pillow and walked out, slowly closing the door behind himself. " I was just in the conference room in fact with Bruce and Clark" he said before clicking the door shut. Diana began to worry about them and their tempers especially if they were alone. Trying not to seem that anything was wrong especially to Olly, Diana began to walk quicker as they left Oliver's old room and headed to the conference room, her heart thumping a little quicker every second. Finally reaching the door Diana stopped, dreading what she would find on the other side. taking a deep breath she pressed against the hard double doors. "how you feeling ?". Diana was greeted with two soft loving voices. Both Clark and Bruce smiled as they turned to look at her. Her expectations of what she thought she'd find were thankful crushed. "I'm..." Diana hesitated, what was she to say to their question knowing she should reply with the very simplistic and easily delusional "I'm fine " but why should she lie especially to people who know her so well. Nothing was or ever would be fine again and all of gem knew this. "I'm giving Alfred a hand with dinner I assume you two will be wanting some" Diana crossed her arms and smiled at both of them, her smile was almost infectious as both Clark and Bruce could not help but smile back at her. "we'll both have something" Clark said. Diana could not help but roll her eyes "Men!". Diana rolled her eyes and strolled from the conference a little pleased the peace between the men had been reached.
"Do you think she suspected anything" Clark whispered as he smirked at Bruce who began holding his ribs tightly in pain. " no and she will never know but if you ever do that again I won't miss your heart" Bruce pulled at his armour and revealed his bruised chest with an almost fist print on it. Clark on the other hand through the entire conversation with Diana had remain with his arms crossed but little did Diana know why. Clark pulled his arms away from his chest to reveal a very thin, knife like kryptonite weapon had been plunged into his stomach. Their rivalry had begun to take a violent toll but they kept there Assault against each other under wraps for Diana's sake. Both men stood like ticking bombs ready to go off at any moment.
Diana had left feeling a little uneasy with the atmosphere but decided to keep her mind occupied with other things like repairing some parts of the ship that were damaged. Making her way to the far end of the ship she entered one of the three hundred electrical set-up rooms which powered the ship. In the rooms Diana was exposed to live wiring beyond repair and some flashing warning signs from the controls at the far end of the room blinding her every few seconds. Diana slid through the wires which draped from the ceiling like snakes. Before Diana had even began to repair any thing, the room began to get extremely cold, frosty air started to swirl round Diana, pulling her to the controls at the end of the room. Soon the wind slammed her against the wall as she grabbed tightly onto the cold ice covered bars from the door. The main room light began to flicker as suddenly from the floor in the blackened mist rose a man in a green cloak with the hood covering his face. The cloak was held shut by a glistening gold medallion engraved with a weird symbol. She had only seen this once she thought. The Spectre!!!
