two and a half years later...
mjs POV
"I'm telling you caden i don't care if you like tom holland as spider-man. he's an amazing actor but tobey will forever live in my mind as the best spider man"
caden rolled his eyes at me from across the table while picking up his pizza and taking another bite. we were sat in a small pizza place not to far off campus, he had asked me to join him after coach had let out both teams from practice. which is why we were sitting in the middle of the small quiet restaurant wearing muddy clothes.
"listen mj you need to hear me out. Tobey sucked as spider man right? tom holland didn't. therefore he is better."
"that's been your excuse for the last thirty minutes. can you just accept the fact that i like tobey more? i'm not saying tom wasn't great. I just liked tobey more."
even if caden had no real evidence that tom was better i wasn't going to say he was wrong. it was his opinion after all.
"let's finish up here yeah? I'm sure layla wouldn't appreciate you being out all night without her."
we had paid when we got our food so all we had to do was throw our trash and head back to our dorms. the drive home was quiet but comfortable. the radio played softly in the background. as we drove, my mind wandered back to the day i left. even though it's been so long i still feel sad every time I think of that day.
I hadn't been in the states since then. my family had come over a few times but it still wasn't the same. instead of having christmas at home we'd just go out to a restaurant together. but i was going back this year. I was going to see all of my friends again. just thinking about leaving this place in less than two weeks for a month gave me butterflies.
when we pulled up to the girls dorms, caden insisted he walked me inside. we talked about school and vacation as we walked up the two flights of stairs that led to my dorm.
when we got up there, caden gently grabbed my arm, stopping me from going inside.
"wait uh i just wanted to tell you that dinner was really fun with you" he gave me a small smile before removing his hand and moving it to the back of his neck in an awkward manner.
"I had a lot of fun too. our food hangouts are always the best." I matched his smile, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
I saw cadens eyes flicker down to my lips then back to my eyes. slowly he leaned into me, me doing the same. his lips softly pressed into mine for a slow passionate kiss. but just as it started it ended. I nudged his shoulders away from me causing our lips to seperate.
"caden. you know I can't..." he cut me off with a small sigh.
"yes yes you're waiting for daniel. mj you haven't seen him in almost three years. don't you think he's moved on?" he had moved farther from me. annoyance present on his features.
"I told him I would wait for him when we split, he said the same. and it wasn't even a split. we're just on a break so he can focus on his music career." I crossed my arms over my chest, a pout present on my face.
"yes his music career. don't you think he just said that so he could go off and have fun with other girls for a while? and besides. waiting doesn't mean you can't do stuff with other people." I screwed my eyes shut, too tired to have this conversation.
"caden. please just, respect what i'm asking if you." with that I turned to the door and unlocked it before quickly shuffling inside. I was quietly greeted by my roommate layla.
"are you alright? I heard arguing." her eyes searched my face with worry, but seemed to relax when she saw nothing was wrong with me.
"i'm fine, really. caden and i just got into a fight over daniel...again. he kissed me again. I still don't know if I can do that type of stuff you know? we said we'd wait for each other." i moved towards the island in our kitchen, backing up to it then hoisting myself onto it. "i still have feelings for daniel. I remember that day so clearly. we were both so hurt i can't just throw that away. it's the only thing keeping us going."
