CHAPTER TEN

➝ BOW & ARROW

         THERE WAS A LOUD PANG OF KNOCKS AGAINST COLLEEN'S FRONT DOOR, WHICH CAUSED HER TO JUMP AWAY FROM SIX ON THE COUCH. Her head snapped over towards the door and Six repositioned himself against the sofa. The two of them had fallen asleep in the living room while watching tv together once she got home from her date with Billy last night. She didn't want to be alone with her not knowing where Hopper or Eleven were, so Six was keeping her company. They were on their third movie of the afternoon when the sudden bang interrupted their movie marathon. Colleen stood up from the couch and made her way towards the door, and opened it up to find Steve standing outside along with one of her younger cousin's best friends, Dustin Henderson. Steve had an apologetic look in his face as Dustin stood in front of the teenaged girl with a wide and goofy grin plastered across his face. Colleen had always been his favorite of Mike's family members, and he loved it when she would be over the house and the kids were playing D&D.  She was always so nice to all of them and would bring them snacks.

"Hey, what are you—" She questioned with furrowed eyebrows as Dustin moved past her and invited himself into her house. Steve waved his hand in his direction and she saw the flowers in his hands, "What the hell is going on, Steve? Why are you with—"

Dustin turned around, "We need his bat. You know, the one with the spikes on it. And I heard that you have a bow and arrow."

Colleen folds her arms across her chest and glanced into the living room to find Six glued to the television, not listening to them at all. She knew if Dustin was asking about the bat, things were getting bad again. But the last thing she wanted was to drag Six back into the mix of things. He was finally able to start living a normal life... One that he'd been robbed of all those years ago.

"Follow me," She muttered and the three of them made their way downstairs into her basement. Steve shut the door behind them and shot Colleen another 'sorry'. They made their way into the garage and Colleen grabbed her bow and arrow from it's box. Steve saw his bat nestled away in the corner and he let out an excited hum as he ran over to it. Colleen lifted the bow onto her shoulder and turned back around to Dustin, "Okay. So tell me, what the hell is going on, Dustin? Steve?"

Steve scratched the back of his head anxiously and his mouth pulled to the side, preparing for the backlash from his best friend. But he took notice that her eyes were puffy and something was off with her, but that was a conversation to be discussed at another time. He let out a light breath but Dustin jumped in, "Okay so it all started with Dart. I found this pollywog or a lizard thing, or at least that's what I thought it was at first. But it's way bigger now, and it... it ate Mews."

"Mews?" Colleen raised an eyebrow as she looked back and forth between her best friend and the curly haired kid. Steve shook his head and shrugged his shoulders, pursing his lips together. Signaling that he was definitely just as confused as she was.
