Logan stayed close behind his two friends as they wandered the streets of Paris. He didn't exactly want to be there though.
Yes it was one of his closest friends, Virgil's, birthday but it had been Virgil's boyfriend's idea to come here. He felt like an unwanted third wheel in a brand new country.
It was never a big deal to Logan when he just hung out with the two while on a date to their local park or to the cafe downtown but this, this was over the top.
Romance wasn't a strong suit for the tie wearing man so he was the only one out of the three that wasn't dating anyone and hadn't been since they became a group. But Logan didn't know if it counted considering that both Roman and Virgil were dating each other and they were all already part of a friend group.
Oh well.
Those thoughts are for another time.
Today Roman had decided it would be a good idea to visit the 'Secluded Soulmate' statue in the middle of the city.
There was an odd story behind that statue that intrigued Logan even before he had heard of this birthday trip.
Centuries ago, a young and beautiful man lived in a village filled with both love and magic. Everyone in the town loved each other in a different way, whether it be as friends, family, even the normal way of a couple. But this particular man had more love to give than anyone. He did have relationships and loved each person more than the last, continuing this on until his horrible fate was decided.
One of the men he had dated was one of the most powerful sorcerers in the village and one day had had enough of the man's extremely loving nature. He thought that if he could prove that the two were soulmates that the man would stay with him and only him forever. So he turned him into stone, cursing him to stay that way until his soulmate held his hand.
But when the sorcerer reached out to grasp the man's hand, he stayed as stone.
He has stayed as a statue to this very day, waiting for the gentle grip of his soulmate to set him free. Almost everyone that came across him would hold his hand in hopes of setting him free from his prison. No one succeeded.
Over the years the statue turned into a popular tourist attraction; you hold the statue's hand and take a picture. Simple as that.
It was just a legend though, no one with common sense would believe in such magical properties. No one like Logan.
Such a silly skeptical.
"Oh come on, Mi amor!" Roman squealed in excitement when they reached the statue, pulling out his phone. "Go hold his hand, it'll be so cute!"
"I don't know, Roman. What if I'm his soulmate?" Virgil joked in return as he walked up to the statue and held its outstretched hand. Just as Logan and everyone else suspected, nothing happened.
"Don't even joke about that! I'm obviously your soulmate afterall."
"Yeah yeah, just take the picture."
With a quick click and a flash of light the picture was taken and Virgil went back to his rightful place next to his boyfriend. They both smiled and laughed at the picture on Roman's phone while Logan stayed off to the side to people watch.
There were many interesting characters out and about during the rather nice day. Mothers and fathers with their children, boyfriends and girlfriends, even other boyfriends. It was refreshing to the glasses wearing man to see a country so open to free love. Since they were in Paris, the city of love, it wasn't much of a surprise.
"Logan?"
A familiar voice along with a gentle hand on his shoulder pulled Logan away from his thinking.
"Oh. Do you require something, Virgil?" Logan asked, adjusting his glasses.
"No, I just wanted to ask if you would go and hold the statue's hand. Roman wants pictures of all of us doing it."
Logan sighed and gently massaged one of his temples with his index finger. "Now why on Earth would I do that?"
Roman stepped down from his spot next to the statue, wrapping an arm around Virgil's waist as he looked at the picture he had taken. "Well Logan it would be a good memory to have of all of us. We don't exactly get to have trips like this very often."
Logan sighed and fiddled with his tie as he walked up to the statue. "Fine," he muttered as he climbed onto the podium. Upon closer inspection of the statue, he noticed smaller features on the man's stone face. A few freckles spread across his cheeks, small dimples on the corners of the small smile plastered on his face, and somehow a twinkle in his eyes. The man looked rather beautiful.
"Hurry up, Nerdy Wolverine! We still have to see the Eiffel Tower!" Roman shouted, a hint of frustration in his voice.
With a shake of his head, Logan quickly grabbed the cold hand of the statue.
"Like this?" He asked, giving his two friends a tired yet annoyed tone.
He noticed that both Roman and Virgil weren't even looking at the phone for the picture. Their eyes were wide, obviously shocked, and their mouths opened in an 'o' shape. Logan raised an eyebrow at their sudden change of behavior.
"Are you two alright? You look like you've seen a ghost?"
Both men remained still with their shocked expressions still frozen on them.
"L-Logan," Virgil managed to stutter out, "look." The emo-like man then pointed to Logan's side, where the statue stood.
Logan scoffed as he turned to look over to what Virgil had pointed at. "What are you on abou-"
"H-hello," A quiet voice interrupted the glasses wearing man.
It was the statue. Well, technically not a statue anymore, it was the supposedly cursed man. He was there, freed from his stone prison and Logan had been the reason for it. Bu now Logan himself from frozen with surprise and shock as Virgil and his own boyfriend had been before.
Roman's sudden squealing and flashing of his phone camera brought Logan back to reality.
"So," Logan began, glancing down at his own hand still holding the man's, "I'm your soulmate?"
The man laughed quietly before giving Logan a warm smile, small tears of joy streaming down his face as he looked at him. "I guess so."
"Introduce yourself, you dolt!" Roman eagerly yelled at Logan.
Logan bit his lip, still taken back by this sudden turn of events, but trying his hardest to keep his composure. "I'm Logan," He said, returning the man's smile, "Logan Berry."
"It's a pleasure to meet you Logan, I'm Patton."
Suddenly Logan started to believe in legends.
