11:49 PM
Rosalie sighs as she feels the crowd of people gather around the window to see the famous ball drop in Times Square. Celebrating New Year's Eve was always a blast especially when it was in New York up in a penthouse where you had the best view of the town and the sparkling ball as you welcomed the New Year.
While everyone was left chattering and squealing with excitement, Rosalie had a sullen expression on her face as she remembers the reason why she was at the party in the first place (which was to forget her ex-boyfriend cheating on her for the second time).
11:52 PM
She turns away from the window, ready to get her coat and leave. The Chinese-American model didn't quite feel like celebrating and just wished she could go home and maybe cook to relieve her stress. As she was making her way out, her eyes catch sight of bright blue ones.
The ocean eyes told a story and expressed a glint of curiosity.
She notices that the man excuses himself from his group of friends without even taking his eyes off of her. As he walks closer, Rosalie could see that he was slightly taller than her and he had a slight beard growing. Finally, he arrives right in front of her and gestures to the crowd of people and the time.
11:54 PM
"Are you all alone tonight?" He asks, a smirk growing on his flawless and chiseled face. "Because, I am too and I hate to see someone like you go unkissed as the year ends and a new one begins."
Rosalie feels her cheeks grow into a light pink color. The guy was handsome, no doubt about that. But, he was movie-star handsome—the kind of beauty that just screamed fortune, fame, and talent.
But, she was twenty-six, single, and the night was young. Rosalie didn't go around wasting her kisses on random strangers sculptured like Adonis but, what the hell?
11:57 PM
"I'll kiss you." She tells him and his eyebrows shot up in surprise. This makes her smile softly because she thought the guy looked like the lion from Madagascar.
"Really?"
"Why not?" Rosalie shrugs and steps closer to him, smelling the alcohol mixed with mint in his breath. "It's the New Year's Eve and. . .it's a mere ten seconds not ten years."
The guy smiles bashfully and nods his head, as if reminding himself of the moment. "Right, right."
11:58 PM
"Before we make-out, I'm Jake." He says and sticks his hand out for her to shake.
10, 9, 8. . .
"Rosalie." Once her hand encircles his for a polite shake, he grips it firmly and pulls her close to him. His arms snake around her waist and Rosalie, though left baffled by the unexpected action, smiles giddily up at him as she bites her lip.
7, 6, 5, 4. . .
Rosalie looks out and sees the bright lights and hands high up in the air. She nervously asks him, "Ready?"
His smirk appears again, "Kinda not. It's not every day I get to kiss a beautiful woman." Rosalie rolls her eyes at this. However, her tiny smile and blushing cheeks give away her attraction to him.
3, 2, 1. . .
And, they kissed amidst the screaming, the other couples, and the bright lights. The two strangers—Rosalie and Jake—felt electricity, sparks, or even the whole zoo around them. But, at the same time, they felt a sense of comfort and home just by being snuggled up in each other's arms and the taste of a strangers' lips.
