Chapter 23

Momma J decided she wanted to go to the South Shore Mall and go shopping. We all got into Momma J’s rental truck. Hennessey of course jumped into the front seat before I could even attempt too. I paid her no mind, if she was going to act like a little kid it was useless. At the end of the day she was wasting her time. I had Chris and I was going to make Momma J like me. She was a really sweet and I could actually see myself getting close with her. 

We pulled into the garage of the mall, parked and got out heading to the mall. It was a Saturday so I knew it would be a busy day at the mall. People were everywhere probably shopping for the spring and summer materialistic, since they were going to approach soon. That reminded me of Chris’ birthday. It was in a couple of weeks and I wanted to get him a killer birthday present. I didn’t know what he liked. I knew he loved basketball, he drew me a couple of pictures but that’s about it. I knew that nigga loved sex and food. But every nigga does. 

“Where you girls want to go first?” Momma J asked us. I wasn’t really sure. I didn’t want to buy anything, especially with Chris’ money. I wasn’t like that, I didn’t live off of other niggas. Chris on the other hand insisted. He wanted me to depend on him. I felt like I could but I didn’t want to. I wanted to make and spend my own money. I knew he wasn’t going to take it back though. I might as well get some stuff that I needed. I wasn’t going to be too comfortable with this though. Maybe I should buy him a birthday present with the money he gave me. I wouldn’t feel so bad.

We walked around the mall and went to different stores. I bought some clothes, more snapbacks, some for Chris that I knew he wanted. I bought me and Chris matching outfits for his birthday, I thought it would be cute. I bought some sprays, lotions and I even bought a sexy lingerie to wear for Chris for his birthday. I didn’t know exactly what to buy him so I stashed the rest of the money away for when I figured it out. Everyone decided that they got everything that they needed so we decided to leave the mall and go and get manicures and pedicures. We headed to Anna’s with Hennessey still in the front seat. I was starting to get annoyed, knowing that I couldn’t do anything about it. I even think she got Chris something for his birthday.

We arrived at Anna’s and got seated for our pedicures first. We all sat in the massaging chairs and dipped out feet into the  bubbling soapy water. Momma J was seated in the middle of me and Hennessey and Mel was sitting next to me, of course Hennessey had to be next to Momma J. No one wanted her basic ass next to us to begin with it. We had small chat that off course Momma J started. We started talking about the gossip in the magazines, reality TV shows that we watched and a whole bunch of other stuff while we got our nails done.

“So Mari you never told me how you and Chris met!” Momma J exclaimed. Mel looked away and Hennessey smirked at me. I didn’t even think it was that big of a deal.

“Well I was at the park one night, and a group of guys came up messing with me and Chris came in time to .. I guess you can say save me. I than saw him again at this function and ever since than we just haven’t separated.” I simply said. Momma J didn’t know Chris dealed and I wasn’t going to be the one to break in the news. 

“Oh what function?” Momma J said.

“A party.” I said simply. “We danced at a party and than just chilled for the rest of the night.” I said. I wasn’t going to tell her about the dead body either.
