Four Years Later

----------

Emily and I graduated from Penn State around this time. Em, of course, graduated at the top of her class. She had a 4.0 GPA for majority of her years at the university, compared to me. I ran a 3.1 GPA most of the time which was still a good grade point average.

Spencer, Hanna and Aria made frequent trips to Penn State to visit us, and eventually we all decided that we should all move to New York. We rented a huge house in Brooklyn, where everyone had their own room.

Quinn and Rachel got married, and Emily watched as I walked down the isle as Quinn's Made of Honor. They were already living in New York, so of course I was much more ready to start my new life there with my girlfriend.

It had been over four years since Brittany left my life, and I think about her everyday. These past few years, have been full of life-changing events. And every time, I'd look up and hope that she was watching me. From wherever she's at. I knew moving back to New York would bring back a bunch of memories but I knew that I had to face them sometime. Emily understood, and we took it day by day.

Quinn and I had lunch nearly everyday together, her work place was only a block over from the law firm I got a internship at.

"So, the club tonight right? You and the girls are coming?"

It was about 1, and Quinn and I were having lunch at the little bistro on 3rd street.

"Yes, yes. We already told you about a million times that we're going." I took a bite of my sandwich while Quinn continued to talk.

"You better, San. Because the last time you and Em flaked on us."

"She wasn't feeling good, Quinn! What did you want me to tell you?" I shook my head, knowing that she was just playing around.

The rest of the day went rather smoothly, work was the same as always. Boring as fuck. I took most of that time to decide what I was going to wear out.

By the time I got home, Emily was waiting for me. She had dinner made, and the rest of the girls were already enjoying a plate.

"Hey San." Spencer greeted me first when I walked in the door. "Dinner's ready. Em made spaghetti."

I walked over to Emily, and kissed her on the cheek. "Hey babe. It smells delicious."

She handed me a plate and we both sat on the couch together.

"I'm excited for tonight. I don't know what it is. I just have a good feeling that it'll be a great time." The smile on her face was beautiful.

The last four years we spent together had been nothing but happiness. Of course we had our fights here and there, but we made it through every single one. She was an amazing person, and I grew to learn nearly everything about her.

When we all were all finally ready for the nights events, we got into our cars and headed to the club together. It was still a little early so there weren't many people there. We met up with Quinn and Rachel, who brought along a couple of their friends from work.

We all talked and hung out until the music really started playing and that's when the fun began. Since college, I had gotten a better control on my alcohol intake so I allowed myself two or three while Emily was already four deep and having a blast. Her buzz kept her on the dance floor, while I found myself moving back towards the table where Quinn was sitting. She scooted closer to me, and we started talking.

"You know, I hadn't really been clubbing since-"

"Oh, I'm so sorry San. I didn't realize that it had been that long. Is that why you never really wanted to come out with me and Rach?"

"No no! I always had a legitimate reason, but I mean Brittany had always been in the back of my mind. She loved to dance so much. She would've loved to be here." I grabbed onto my necklace, a accessory that I wore everyday no matter what kind of outfit I was sporting. I never took it off- only when I had to shower.

"She's here with you, I know it." I felt like the room was closing in a little. Quinn motioned me towards the door and we both stepped outside together.

"Are you going to smoke? Cause you know how I feel about that, Q." She went into her purse to grab out her pack of cigarettes and her lighter. "One. Then we're going back inside. It's cold out here."

We talked for a bit, then suddenly, Quinn started to put her hands up slowly. I looked at her and saw it- the fear in her eyes. I turned, to see a man in a hoodie with a gun pointed straight at us.

"Hey, hey. Take it easy man, we'll give you whatever you want." I slowly put my own hands up and he just pushed towards us more.

"I don't give a fuck about what you may have on you."

The hooded figure pulled the trigger and before I knew it, I was stepping in front of Quinn, taking the direct hit in the chest. I fell back and she caught me. She started screaming, and that's when he ran away.

"Santana you fucking asshole! You can't do this to me!" She was crying, holding on to me for dear life. "I love you San. Please don't leave. Please."

I felt light, and all of a sudden, I was outside of my body. Just like the time I downed the bottle of pills back at home.

"This is it, isn't it?" Brittany came walking up next to me, putting her arm on my shoulder. "It's foreal this time."

"I think it may be, San."

I watched as Emily came running outside, with tears streaming down her face. She ran over next to me and tried to get me to wake up.

"She loved you so much." Brittany walked closer.

"Santana no, please! Somebody help!" Emily was trying to get the bleeding to stop but there was nothing she could do. By the time the ambulance came, I was gone.

Hanna was grabbing onto Emily who was completely distraught while Rachel tried to calm Quinn down. She was hysterical.

"I've watched you San. These past few years were big for you." I walked towards Brittany who was now still standing near where the girls were. "This move to New York was going to be your big break."

I watched as they all gathered themselves as best as they could, and walked back to the car. She grabbed onto my hand and interlocked her fingers in mine. It was like second nature. Sort of like riding a bike, once you get back on, it comes easily.

"I've missed you, B."

"I know. I've missed you too. It was so hard, you know. Watching you. Crying every night in bed. Trying to hide it from Emily." She turned to me. "You're a stubborn one, Santana Lopez. You should've just let her in."

A tear formed in her eye, and I caught it as it fell. "I couldn't do anything to help you. I couldn't hold you, or kiss the pain away."

I tippy toed a bit and kissed Brittany. It was like we never skipped a beat. Like we had never been apart. The kiss felt so, intense.

"I was there though, through everything. And I am so proud of you, Santana. Of everything you accomplished. As much as I wanted you with me, I knew that you had much bigger things in your life."

"I knew you were watching me wherever I went. But, here I am. I'm with you now." I grabbed onto her face and kissed her once more. "So, what's next?"

"Whatever you want, beautiful. We've got forever."

Thank you, to everyone who was helped me along the way with this story. As my first crossover, it was a very fun piece to write and without the support of all of you, I wouldn't have been able to finish.

The ending may be kind of abrupt but it took me a while to come up with the ending. I knew that it was inevitable for Britt and Santana to end up together, in this way. It may not have been how you all wanted it to end and I'm sorry...

If you haven't read any of my other pieces, go on! CHECK THEM OUT :)

And again, thank you :)
